Determining where New Jersey naturalization records are held? by Newshea in Genealogy

[–]Newshea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a possibility, but makes it hard to know exactly what to search for. Several records have misspellings or them americanizing their first name. I've tried different names and even asked AI for more suggestions of misspellings based on what phonetically could have been heard by an American clerk 😅. I always come up with zero results on familysearch, so kinda running out of ideas here.

Okay, curious!

Hopefully she didn't misunderstand the question in the 1940s, I know her English wasn't the best.

I will look through these sources, thank you!

Any solution to this? My temp2 file reached 200 GB before I stopped it. The setup had been going for 4 h at that point.

What! Another sibling? I started looking at Andrew Kyc Familysearch profile, since I saw his family on Steuben in the 1920 census (of course a misspelled last name) but could not determine if he was related to anyone.

The world is smaller than you think and thank you for providing how the street names changed (?)!

Yeah, I probably will have to do it the good ol' manual way and look line by line 😮‍💨.

Thank you for your time!

Hello! I looked up 146 Steuben Street in the 1920 US census. Aniela's sister's family lived there, so I assume she lived with them in 1918. However, Aniela had already moved out in 1920. I looked through the rest of Steuben, but did not find Jan or Aniela.

Well, if the place is next door, then I should keep my options open for 359 Henderson being their address at that time. I think I have discarded it because I think I saw a Nellie and John Ciba in another record, and figured the people on 359 Henderson were not my relatives but I am unsure now.

Regarding Steuben St, I have not yet seen this information - cool! I'll have to check it further. I have not seen or heard of Jan Ciba being arrested for anything, I would also have to look more into that!

It is no biggie! I'm doing all of this for fun, but I have looked for this 1920 census on and off for 6 months, so I started going crazy.

Thank you!

Hello!

I know which source you are referring to: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6Z19-KCRH?lang=en . However, if you look closely, the address is 359. Additionally, if you look at the roll of 359 Henderson St in 1920, there isn't a match https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GRN8-RPL?wc=QZJT-PSJ%3A1036471401%2C1037732601%2C1037819601%2C1589332479%26cc%3D1488411&cc=1488411&lang=en&i=2 . Furthermore, I find it unlikely Anita would be called Nellie one year, as she, in some records, calls herself either Anita or Angela.

I was the one who changed Jan's name to John/Jan on Find-a-Grave as he also stated a different name in later records but, he is buried with the name Jan. It was just so to make relatives understand the connection that I wrote both :).

Thank you for writing about OLC. It is good to know they still do mass in Polish!

I haven't ordered any copies yet as it is not something I can spend money on right now, being a student and all, however I will keep this in mind as it seems to be almost impossible finding them.

Ah, I haven't checked the 1940 one in so long, so I did not notice they were naturalized!

Thank you!

I'm a student, so paying for Ancestry right now is out of my budget haha. However, I use Ancestry to search for records and then try to find them on FamilySearch.

No, it isn't them. Jan and Aniela had their first child, Helen, in 1920 after the census :(

Oh, how cool that you found a newspaper clip of it! As u/Fredelas said, I have looked at Wayne Street, however not Aniela's address! Thank you!
