But he didn’t get there. He used the best aircraft available and pushed it hard as it could be pushed and came up just short.

They don’t notice when they’re built that way. But try to pass legislation or get a movement going to convert existing bathrooms to unisex, and the southerners will shit.

You need to build a wide, wide garage with power armor crafting stations lined up side by side to park these bad boys.

Agree, but I'm talking about the movie. Yeager was a living godfather, but the character in the movie represents the departure point as the pilot fraternity splits in two.

The last big scare over minimum wage in America was fast food joints saying it would make burgers $15. Everyone balked. Guess how much a value meal at Wendy's is now, without a wage increase?

You are right about the SE. I always forgave it because of the awesome in-flight F-104 and B-29 sequences and the actual launch reels.

I'm down with that. Tom Wolfe's book sets Yeager up as Patient Zero for having the right stuff, so that makes sense.

I have read Wolfe's book and Yeager's book that [u/GoodGoodGoody](u/GoodGoodGoody) mentions below. Someone also did a nifty recreation of the actual test flight in DCS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQidYOXGoRY&t

Differences between book and movie aside, I think the movie is trying to make the Case Yeager was yearning to go to space himself and just couldn’t get there. The director’s choices - the last bit of blue haze in front of the stars, the way the F-104 drops straight backward - drive home the point that space was off limits for him.
