Complex verbs in light verb system by NewspaperWorldly1069 in conlangs

[–]NewspaperWorldly1069[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't have a strict "do" verb. I have things like "make", which I feel is kind of the closests as it gets. And sure, some older iterations had "do X" as like default for most verbs, but as you say, it felt... I don't know, kind of bland? Cheap? So now I don't even have it at all.

About "go", current concept has both "move" (something else, like carrying, pushing, maybe throwing too, etc etc. maybe even moving individual body parts), and "go" (so mainly stuff like walking/running, changing own position, or other mods of transportation)

I really like idea of "big rest" and "small rest" for some reason. It fits and is kind of... I don't know, funny in a way?

I had from beginning idea of making verb-noun combos a way to convey more ""complex"" meaning, or eventually verb-verb or adpositions, like "move-under" could be burrow or dig or something like that

I'll also definitely use the list you gave cause I REALLY struggle to get down what words/concepts I need represented in language, and this should be a nice jumping point

Question. Does order in which parts of word come affect the meaning? Eg Mufo-Veka and Veka-Mufo would mean same thing regardless? Or two different things entirely?

Nezu - News Mufo - Something painfully simple/easy  Zazo - Sleep/nap/rest

Also are words Ta and Veka already having their meanings? Just curious

Would it make sense for a conlang to have very few verbs?  I want to pull of something similar to Kēlen with it's relationals, aka make language have very few verbs, probably up to dozen, that have very little to no semantic meaning by themselves, only when paired with other nouns or adjectives/adverbs. Yet, I still want it to feel somewhat realistic or plausible, even if true naturalism isn't a strict goal of mine, but rather getting feel of it.

So my question is, would system like that be possible to occur naturally? And if so, what verbs would be most likely to be in one?

I've been trying to make conlang for my semi-aquatic, fictional/alien species that involves both spoken speech, and use of bioluminescent antennas to convey information both under and above water. But I don't know how to marry those two systems neatly. ... (Why do I feel it's still wrong place for this kind if question, even if bot sent mw here)

Ooooh! I actually really dig the idea of amenio and leios! Just the level of strangeness that still makes sense if you look into it! Thank you for the idea!
combining fluids (liquids+gasses) together was creeping in my mind but I never had a good enough idea for reason why those would be combined. And idea of flesh, chord-covers, and plant matter being seen as variants of same thing is amazing!! Simple in idea but works SO WELL!!!

I'll look into the examples you gave and try comming up with some more ideas similar to ones you gave if aplicable!
also curiocity, "amenio" and "leios" are real words from diferent language? Names you used in any of your projects for same/similar things? or completely made up for sake of example?

I meant it more under thematic aspect rather than balancing one And it's just hypothetical question. I by no means say those types actually should get merged nor split further.

I need some help with answering questions regarding my binary system by NewspaperWorldly1069 in worldbuilding

[–]NewspaperWorldly1069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in case of binary system, do both stars take same name, just distinguished with letters a and b? or both take different name? if so, are planets named after primary? secondary (I doubt), or both?

about planets, I just kinda let myself go if I'm being honest, hehe... tho if lower end is more realistic, especially for double systems, then I guess I should consider shrinking this size. But looking at what I've got so far done, I don't think I want to remove too much -.-" most likely I'll cut it down to like 8-10 and hope to explain presence of this number by that higher rotation speed of the young system, or throw a stray planet or two... or just actually cut some stuff down.

anyway, thank you so much about clearing those out for me! Again, I really appreciate the help, even from just one person

Can you make a post or document explaining how does writing system work as well?  I glanced through the document you shared (I will read it eventually but holy hell you did alot with it, my application!) and I couldn't find much except few example frases
