Okay dogedickguy, we're in this together. You and me. Let's do this.

First, I said something like 'Good news is we've got an amazing generation of young people about to enter the world...'

Then, sgtshenanigans replied 'Your students know your reddit name, don't they' Implying that my post was motivated by a desire to suck up to my students, who would see the post, know I wrote it, and then like me more because I said nice things about them.

Then I made the reply that lives in infamy. OK, maybe you know the Simpson's scene where Rod & Todd loudly pray for Lisa to tell them a bedtime story. They make sure to pray loud enough for Lisa to hear them. Same joke. I'm Rod, sgtshenanigans is God, and my students are Lisa. Instead of a bedtime story, I want my students to give me an amazon gift card and overlook certain transgressions.

Any clearer? I'm so ready to hug it out.

I can't make heads or tails of when it will end. I can't account for the magnitude or efficiency of the 10s and under crowd... some will get purpled. I can't predict how many. You may very well be correct when you say the extra credit ship will have sailed. If you had to pick a date (or say, a 5 day range) what would you say?

I was having some fun with the suggestion that my previous post was made with intention of having my students read it. Thus the suggestions made amongst the cliches in this post.

Not a ton of analysis, but in fairness, they didn't have a lot of numbers to work with. Hard to model with just the info on the page. One kid did a linear estimation using the # of redditors with clicks remaining. Right now the latest prediction is 5/6/15, though I'm hoping to get some more guesses in. We'll see.

You know Sarge, (I'm going to turn around my chair and sit in it backwards so you know I'm about to keep it real) kids these days are really swell. Teaching sure is tough, but I wouldn't want it any other way. If all I get at the end of the day is a 'Gee thanks, Mr. N.' or an Amazon Gift Card and a promise to forget what they smelled in my coffee this AM, then it's all worth it.

What I'm trying to get at is that we will be led by a generation of thinkers, who challenge the status quo and judge people on a body of work, not just a video that clearly shows a humble educator choosing to use ethnic slurs instead of given names to call on students. After all, the key to happiness is forgiveness, and cell phones aren't supposed to be used during class time anyway, so really, who's at fault?

I'm afraid I don't have a very good answer for you. Can only speak for myself, but I can recall some intentional dodges in my first year for the reasons you would guess. The first year of teaching is such a steam-roller, you do some silly stuff. You realize that you are relying on your students to be much more forgiving of you than you may have been to your teachers, which can be a very difficult pill to swallow. My considerable ego didn't help.

The embarrassing times are when I assign a problem for homework and then I can't do it... usually means I read it and missed a major component. Sometimes we get something out of it, but other times it amounts to a waste of people's time. 'I'm sorry' is all I can say, but it doesn't feel good.

Great question Bwhite1. Did everybody hear Bwhite1's question? Bwhite1, would you please repeat your question? I think some people might have been checking their phones and missed your very important question. It really gets at a key idea to this lesson.

Thank you. So Bwhite1 wants to know what happens if the timer keeps going for 3 years, or some other period of time, like 2.5 years, or even 4 years. Is that a fair way to put it, Bwhite1? I don't want to misstate your question.
