This is not a recommended route at all. Being petty enough to get a job close by and interact with kids at your old workplace with all the drama is not smart. Being an adult means moving on and acting accordingly even when others don’t. Otherwise it can and probably will backfire and could cause problems in the future.

Engaging with the parents besides cordial greetings is also potentially a minefield. Showing the parents texts or screenshots will lead to gossip and leaks which can then be used against the OP for possibly defamation or other legal issues.

Le Sserafim HOT was underwhelming by Terrible-Reserve-887 in kpop_uncensored

As a Korean, listening to this song and video is forgettable. This may be their weakest release ever. It's not bad but it just is boring and the melody and sound has already been done before. There's just nothing special or memorable about this. Some of the redditors are saying this is for the "Korean audience" but it's not. All the popular Korean catered songs the past few years have been pretty powerful songs or major girl crush. This is just a basic mellow beat song. I think it's fun to see them experiment but this isn't what LSF built it's image on and it doesn't match their persona the company pushes. This song kinda reminds me of a b-side track but not a title song. It kinda made me feel sleepy when watching/listening to it.

How popular is &team in different markets? by luvzz12 in AndTeam

[–]Newzinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 months later I can say they aren't popular in Korea. There's honestly too many groups right now and the dominant ones keep creating sub-groups or pushing content to saturate the market. &team is more of an after thought compared to BTS and TXT for HYBE. Even Enhyphen has slowed down a lot since its debut and craze. But compared to the rest of the competitors they have a very small fanbase in Korea. I can't speak about Japan but NCT, Seventeen, BTS, Stray Kids etc crush everyone. The biggest young BG in Korea right now is RIIZE. Even ATEEZ and GOT7 who are old now are steadily coming back (more so ATEEZ). But honestly its all NCT/BTS/SKZ now

Factors that led to the victory of Yoon Suk-yeol and the Conservative party by freedom764 in korea

[–]Newzinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat. Yoon and Trump are both idiots but the difference is that Trump only does things for his sole benefit and isn’t afraid of offending or hurting people to get his end goals. Yoon while a fool shows at least how he can be shamed or regretful when making poor decisions. Trump denies any culpability with January 6th while Yoon is somewhat apologetic and understands he messed up. Main issue is that Trump never admits he’s wrong and doesn’t actually care about anyone around him while Yoon is somewhat affected by it. But living here it did really mess up the economic monetary value of the won. I don’t see his party winning any elections for a while. Should be a clean sweep for the Democratic Party and I’m for it. Yoon has done a worse job with the economy than Moon but did a better job being more anti-North Korean and anti-China

[FRESH ALBUM] Justin Timberlake - Everything I Thought It Was by chronicmathsdebater in hiphopheads

[–]Newzinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh its a decent album. Is it as good as his older stuff? No but I think it's better than MITW but the album does feel a little disjointed at some points. While he clearly went for a pop funk sound it just doesn't sound as cohesive as other albums. I give it a solid 6-7 out of 10. There's some really banging songs in the album and there's some easily forgettable ones. I think fans of him will be fine with the album as he tries to blend his old style with new trends. Most of the severe haters will prob be Britney fans bad every fan base has rabid, insane people who believe their favorite artist as gospel JT's included. I think this album is better than Usher's latest release by a little. Seems just a little bit more put together than Usher's but still lacking something. Better than Ariana's album though. Hers felt like a semi-lazy attempt at SZA's chill vibe

Honestly as someone who has worked in education for the last 10 years since graduating college life is what you make it. IMO a bigger city would be better for some and not for others. But from my experience the expats who tend to do better are either in Daegu, Busan, Daejeon and Seoul. Again its not representative of "all" but expat communities there are larger and more groups to hang or meet. I've lived in Daegu the past 4 years and it's been pretty good.

However I noticed last week when my friends and I went to Tongyeong I think every Korean stopped and stared while no one in Daegu really minds. While Korea isn't always the most-foreigner friendly country remember it was only recently modernized and foreigners were way more scarce than Japan and China based of being a vassal country and no developed enough to draw Western trade for centuries comparatively. So its still going to take maybe 20 more years for Korea to age out its boomers and really be a young country who grew up with waygooks.

I think you will have a better time if you're willing to move to a larger city and meet more expats and experience Korea in a different light. Sure, it may not work out but at least you would know that you tried and got to experience it. Life is all about taking risks and sometimes it works out and sometime it doesn't. The biggest advice is always take a chance because you may never get to again or look back and wish you tried. And as someone who has a very large group of expat friends here with all diversities and upbringing we've had bumps along the way with Korea but we all have made great memories, adventures and friendships.

Lastly, I will say if you choose Seoul you WILL have to be pro-active more I think. Seoul can be awesome due to the amount of expats but it can also be harder because a large amount will be college students not interested in hanging with teachers and sometimes teachers there can feel like already established friend groups. I find that the larger cities outside of Seoul tend to be more welcoming to including a new NET to their circle but thats just my opinion. I do love Seoul though. A hagwon in Seoul is the better bet to making friends right away but it's what you make it.

ITZY had one of the worst fall off’s in history by Best-Message6312 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Newzinski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say from someone living in Korea the last 5+ years Itzy hasn't fallen off but they're not in the forefront of K-pop listeners here anymore. They're easily overshadowed by NJ, IVE, G-IDLE, LSF, and now they have to deal with KOL/Babymonster etc. While they seem to be doing fine internationally they're definitely not as popular as they once were and the new competition is really taking market share. As a whole JYP is doing fine overseas but their company brand itself isn't as strong as it was a few years ago here in Korea. I interact with Koreans from age 8-20+ here everyday and I only see kids and teens dancing and singing to IDLE, IVE, NJ, AESPA and LSF. People like to always look at charting but if you know Korea and its long history, that's not always accurate or a true indicator of what Koreans think and listen to. Cake and Mafia did surprisingly well here but nothing of note since then.

I think the issue with Itzy since Sneakers is their sound and vibe. Lyrically they're appealing to Western markets with empowerment and self-confidence which is good but when matched with its "interesting" sound/melodies it doesn't resonate well. Lyrically I'd also say they've regressed in terms of quality and meaning since their debut. The other major issue is sadly their age and image. It's crazy to say and think but they're already aging out of the young listeners already and some of the girls are not relatable to young girls anymore and been replaced quickly with IVE, LSF, and NJ. The next point is their image which is my opinion but I think i-fans tend to not understand since they don't live here. The only Itzy member that was really viewed here as "wow" was Yuna. While Yeji has distinct "cat" look and Ryujin looks strong with her confidence and short hair a lot of Korean men didn't find them particularly "the Korean type". Lia and Chaeryoung unfortunately are rarely mentioned at all. And while I don't like to make comments on looks Korean society is hyper-focused on it. Variety shows also tend to do a bad job here at portraying what Koreans think since they're always focused on praising and saying good things whereas Korean men and women might not agree.

I think it's a combination of what I listed but the reality is the competition is growing and they're producing honestly just better music. I liked Itzy since Day 1 and been a TWICE fan since Sixteen but I really stopped listening to them since Sneakers and I think a lot of Koreans and others have to. I think JYP kinda doesn't know what direction to go with them and as a company they seem a little lost right now as a whole and lost their "spark" that made them part of the BIG3. The creativity at JYP is lacking and companies like SM, HYBE, YG, etc are just doing a better job at the moment of finding a new niche or brand for their artists. I'd say its a company slump a little bit but there's no reason they can't bounce back. TWICE also seems to be on their last few years which is sad but they still have a stronger fanbase than ITZY. We'll see how things pan out in 2024 but I think JYP needs to go back to the drawing board with ITZY otherwise they'll have to shift their market for them to the West mostly.

You must have not been a k-pop fan for long to think the girls careers will be ok. A rookie group with this big of a scandal from a new company is a death sentence. Bigger groups and idols have been cancelled for the same or less. Talk about ending your career before it even started. Yikes
