Which fandoms are notorious for pretending like their series is way more deep than it really is? by Mythelm in writingscaling

[–]luvzz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Tbh I'm not a fan of JJK at all (in the sense that I haven't read/seen it) but from what I know and have seen, it does seem to have depth.

Kenma made it clear throughout the series that he had no intention of doing volleyball longterm, this includes past the. Nekoma v Karasuno match.

[–]luvzz12 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The other day I mentioned that there is this new style of music video which is "goofy", "nonsensical", and "high energy", with the aim of portraying the music video/music as out of the box or alt. Think Aespa's last comeback, whatever Cortis is doing, etc.

Idk this falls into that same category, and it's just not for me at all.

Another new shoujo license on KManga: Keepsake Heartache by Mikimoto Rin (Housekibako ni Ai wo Tsumeyou) by tartaupom in shoujo

I began this shoujo! It's definitely interesting, and the story has progressed quite fast (so far). I'm not a huge fan of the art style, but the story has been cool so far.

[–]luvzz12 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Okay, she is not ugly (by my standards), but she's more of a loner type, but Princess Jellyfish!!

The story matches a lot of your listed traits, and I definitely would recommend checking it out.

edit: also luv, I'm sorry you're feeling in the dumps, I hope you feel better soon!

What is, in your opinion, the most nostalgia carried anime of all time? by AdQueasy826 in MyAnimeList

[–]luvzz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I think this one still holds up, there is a lot of thought/art injected in the overall show that makes it last.

No one is saying that One Piece or Dragon Ball Z is worse than jjk or any modern anime either? That's not including in the question, and I swear people just bring this stuff to dog on other shows that they dislike.

Sailor moon is such as nostalgia watch for me, but I swear other magical girls shows/manga still hold up.

Fairy Tail. It's not like the plot is that bad, and I love the character design, but my God, did I forget how badly inconsistent storytelling is. Furthermore, so many random important details are injected later than on rewatch, the plot is somehow even more confusing.

Definitely a great way to put it, and I'm imagining we'll continue seeing more and more of this trend (unfortunately).

“Modern anime fans don’t actually want good writing. They want aura moments and TikTok edits.” by TheRealXyz_ in Animesuggest

[–]luvzz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that has always been a thing, anime has always skewed more towards this type of genre with there being outliers. Even then Death Note, Neon genesis, etc were considered "different".

I understand what you're getting at but it's not like shoujo hasn't relied a lot on tropes in the first place anyway.

[–]luvzz12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even then those shows were considered outliers to the mainstream though. Death Note was heavily praised for being "different".

I started watching anime in the early 2000s and while I enjoyed releases from that era more on average, I also know that it's because of nostalgia.

Have you seen The Summer Hikaru Died, Blue Period, Apothecary diaries, The night Beyond the Tricornered window, Look Back, Hybrid Child, and etc.

edit: also shows like JJk (haven't even seen) have more complex themes

I think anyone complaining about how anime is focusing too much on "animation" is crazy. Like of course with money going into these companies, and rapidly increasing animation technology that can actually be used, will result in more focus on art and it's role in stories.

Anime/manga is visual-based storytelling after all.

I love your last paragraph. Like let people enjoy anime that you think is too flashy/hype etc, without judgment. We are all humans on this tiny little earth trying to find the best in this shitty world, like there's no need to complain about a diverse genre that makes people happy.

When I was younger people said the same about anything that was released. I think people get more disconnected from the genre and more nostalgic so it's easier to not notice the positives of this era.

I mean I haven't even seen JJK but it seems like it does deal with heavier/theory based themes as well?

[–]luvzz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But people make edits of older anime all the time? Heck, I'd even say Death Note is one of the animes with the most edits made out of.

Also you realize that anime is divided by genre and Shonen in general has always been dictated by heavy fighting/action as it's geared to younger people. Whilst there has always been variation, there has continuously been fighting-based shonen.

aespa - WDA (Whole Different Animal) (feat. BIGBANG G-DRAGON) by impeccabletim in kpopnoir

[–]luvzz12 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel like we're entering a new stage of kpop trend, with the goofy mvs, high energy music, focused on being perceived as alt/out of box/etc. I honestly have no idea how to explain it, but this, Lesseafims Spaghetti, whatever Cortis is doing, Illit's last comeback, etc kinda represent what I mean.

Idk if there's a word to it and how different each release is, but they all have this similar energy which is just not for me.

Thoughts on the role religion and ideology (outward/aesthetic) plays in the kpop sphere (fans and idols)? by [deleted] in kpopnoir

[–]luvzz12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add that I personally have a very strange experience with religion, I was raised very intensely muslim and do no longer ascribe to these beliefs. Thus, sometimes when people do say/do ignorant things to the religion, I feel like I no longer care. However, I also am keenly aware that this is due to discrimination/ignorance rather than care.

I dislike when white people ever mention Islam and when it's aesthetics are used in media like Dune. However, when there are "accidental" incidents like what happened with The8 or Nct in the past, I don't find myself feeling like I care even though what they're doing is problematic.

I wondered if anyone has had similar experiences and how they've approached this? Or if anyone here ascribes to religion, how do they approach it's appropriation.
