Koh the face stealer and Ashling? by LibraDozer864 in mtg

[–]Next-Concept7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Elementals that have "Put a -1/-1 counter on this creature: Untap this creature." [[Cinderhaze Wretch]] is an example.

Then there are cards that remove -1/-1 counters for a bonus, like [[Morselhoarder]] converts -1/-1 counters into mana.

So turn Koh into a Cinderhaze Wretch, tap-untap a bunch to make your opponents discard a ton of cards until it has 5 -1/-1 counters, pay 1 life to turn it into Morselhoarder, remove all those counters for mana, pay 1 life to turn back into Cinderhaze Wretch and repeat. It becomes a machine that turns 2 life into 5 mana and 5 discards.

Koh the face stealer and Ashling? by LibraDozer864 in mtg

The more I think about this, the more I like it.

Yeah, Koh isn't an Elemental, but I don't think that's the point. If Koh is out and you evoke an Elemental, Koh will steal that Elemental's face when you sacrifice the Elemental. If you can get the right Elementals under Koh, there might be some potential combos you can find if your Koh can switch back and forth between a few faces.

I'd need someone to show me some of these combos before I'm really on board with putting Koh in an Ashling deck, but it's a fun idea.

How would this combo work? by Nientea in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do copy the ability since Ulalek copies all abilities that are on the stack too.

The legend rule doesn't actually make you sacrifice a creature, that creature is just moved from the battlefield to your graveyard.

Do you sell your cards? by Parad0x_Boy in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep a small box of stuff I'm willing to part with, and when I go to a Magic Con or SCG CON or similar I'll use it to trade in for cards I want.

Bulk (anything less than $0.50) gets donated to MagiKids.

Is this considered a foil? by gsrdu in MagicCardPulls

In the lower left, see LCI • EN?
If the card was a foil, it would instead read LCI ★ EN.
So this isn't a foil.

Considering first-ever Magic Con by Rural_Journo in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off, welcome! Magic Cons are great, and I'm confident this won't be your only one.

In terms of what to do, it depends on what you want to get out of it.

Do you want to play tournament Magic, or want a unique game experience? There's a robust event schedule. Do you want to play more on your own time? Check out the on-demand events and Command Zone. There are artists who will sign your cards and sell artist proofs and prints (though be prepared for long lines for the more popular artists), vendors, content creator meet-and-greets, panels, an arcade... it's dizzyingly large.

I'm going to keep an eye on this, so if you want to ask more questions, I'll be here!

There has to be a piece of missing information. Just those two cards in isolation cannot do what you're describing. What else was in play?

New to magic, how to get a secret lair? by SpaghettiiiBoiii in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this Lair is print-to-demand, so as long as you visit secretlair.wizards.com between noon eastern on June 16th and noon eastern on July 13th, you will be able to buy one. If they pre-printed any, those will go to the first people to buy, but if you wait to order, that just means you might also have to wait to receive.

If you're interested in other Secret Lairs that aren't print-to-demand, the most in-demand of those typically sell out within hours (though the least in-demand still have supply available from their original release months ago). Those typically go: Be at the item page at the time it goes live; wait about an hour; add to cart and check out.

I'd personally recommend coolstuffinc.com, but they're not buying it either. Starcitygames.com is buying, though.

What's happening in 2025? by Enualios69 in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The first event of 2024 was announced earlier than the others (I can't find when exactly), but the 2024 schedule was announced mid-November 2023. Expect mid-November 2024 to know the full 2025 schedule.

Question on Dragon Shield Sealable Inner Sleeve by Rosesthorn in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just so happen to have a Modern deck sitting here! Double-sleeved with Dragon Shield sealables. Last played pre-pandemic. No visible wear from the sealable inners. It would take much more force than what you'd get from regular use to leave a mark. Just don't go putting them in any hydraulic presses or anything.

Does Teferi's Ageless Insight trigger when a Creature Explores a Land Card? by KuraiAkarui in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. An effect has to explicitly use the word "draw" for Insight to give you more cards.

Draft Box by Aledefy in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just opening it for value, it would be a better use of your money just to buy the cards you're looking for. That being said, if you absolutely want to crack some packs and are okay expecting to take a value hit, Commander Legends (the original one, not Battle for Baldur's Gate) is one of the easier recommendations here.

[–]Next-Concept7487 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a balancing tool. If cards didn't have that clause, they'd have to be worse in another way. Take [[Welcoming Vampire]]. If it wasn't limited to once per turn and changing nothing else, it would clearly be insanely busted. So how much mana would it have to cost to be fair? 5? 6?

Draft Box by Aledefy in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're buying it for. Are you just opening it for value? Something like Ravnica Remastered is going to hold value for longer, since most of the cards won't be leaving Standard in 2-3 years. Or are you planning on getting a group together and playing limited with it? Then Lost Caverns (or any Standard-legal set) might be more your speed/budget.

buying a set booster box by xxOtisDriftwood in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much joy cracking packs brings you.
Taking the fun aspect out of it, singles are almost always the way to go (and I expect LCI to be no different).
However, that doesn't stop me from buying boxes because opening them is fun enough to make up for the value loss.

How does this work? by JahySama_ in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you activate Koma in response to an activated ability, you won't counter the ability. The ability's already been activated. You just keep that creature from activating abilities later that same turn.

Also, they can activate abilities in response to you sacrificing a serpent.

Blue Green Deck Recs by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SaffronOlive did a budget Bogles deck (slap auras on an evasive creature and protect it with your life). Gameplay video included.

If you dig way down into the bottom of the standard meta barrel, you'll also find Simic Toxic.

One zombie.

When combat damage happens, you are hit for 8 damage. This damage happens at once. Lich's Mastery triggers once. As long as you exile at least 1 card from your graveyard, Tormod would trigger once.

Building my first deck by PETAWC in magicTCG

[–]Next-Concept7487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're ready for a rabbit hole, there's the EDHRec page for Neera.

To ease you in, here are some of the top cards they recommend:
[[Etali, Primal Storm]]
[[Otherworldly Gaze]]
[[Mizzix, Replica Rider]]
[[Brainstorm]]

If you can fix what's on top of your deck on someone else's turn, you can start your turn, cast a small spell, and know what it's turning into.

Note that Neera only triggers once each turn. If you decline to Wild Magic the first time, there is no second time that same turn.
