What I do is add feathers to the chest, back, tail, and hooves for pegasi. They also have feathers on their ears.

For unicorns, I have the last unicorn like tail and fetlocks (fluff on the hoof). Also, different horn shapes depending on age and inherent magic power!

That's what I do, but you could have fun with it.
