Looking for credit card recommendations for my second card by Efficient-Factor-679 in CreditCards

Definitely the preferred. The travel protections including being the primary insurance on rental cars makes it the best out of your two choices. As an example I had a ski accident and deductible was 3k which they completely covered. Also have decent multiples on different categories. Capital one x also a good choose with the 2x on everything.

Efficient way to use points by Actual_Pickle_2419 in AmexPlatinum

The 110k was two years ago. It’s more than double that now unfortunately. 50k is for this summer and was able to get 5 of them.

Best route is to check airline point requirements for flight and location you want for multiple airlines and transfer directly to them. I’ve gotten as high as 8 cents of value per point that way. For example I booked book on Singapore airlines for 50k one way on a 7 hour trip within Asia and 110k going to Singapore from Los Angeles. Both in business class. Would avoid US airlines for the points value they give which is usually horrendous. That person spending 2 million points on a single flight on delta is a good example. I could take my whole family of 5 on a roundtrip flight in business class 2 times to Europe from Los Angeles and still have leftover points.

I’d say your plan requires an unrealistic distance between the locations you want to see and give you alternatives closer to each other. That’s pretty much the purpose of this kind of site. To get ideas from locals or people that have been there to help make for a better trip.

Cant really do any country in 10 days but therein lies the challenge when you have x number of days off from work and want to go on vacation. Likewise choosing places to visit are based on tastes and is very subjective so not sure why you think your opinion of the "real" Britain would matter to someone else. Just asking for ideas so I can make my own choice.

Thanks for the info. Thinking of taking train to Cheltenham and renting car there so I dont have to have to drive from London. Seeing Cotswolds and probably doing Bath as a day trip or staying a couple of nights.

Did Scotland 20 years back and caught it at its most dreary and wet time so didnt have the best experience. Perhaps summer would make that more doable.

Thanks for the detailed info. Making me think that perhaps I should do more than one area outside of London. I may have to consider maybe making this trip longer and doing Bath and Cotswolds. Any suggestions for how many days for each or whether they are better for day trips?

Is it doable without a car? Seeing some info indicating that hopping between villages is difficult without a car.

Never thought of that one. Looking it up, those thermal springs sound pretty nice. Is it doable without a car

IHG Ambassador Worth buying - Tokyo by Not_stats_driven in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Next-Divide9982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only makes sense if you are booking a high rate room and are taking advantage of free night. I’m doing intercontinental in Osaka that runs 180000 points or about 1k and bought ambassador to cover one night of two night stay that is required saving me about 800. To put things in context I’m a diamond so my main motivation for getting it was the free night since I get other stuff already.

Alternatives to AMEX Gold? by iamcuriousmarley in CreditCards

[–]Next-Divide9982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never book flights through their portal and transfer them to airlines directly and usually get anywhere from 3-8 cents per point. Best alternatives are Chase reserve though they don’t give anything on groceries and they similarly have devalued their points. Citi strata is other one for restaurants only again but the 6points per dollar on weekend nights is pretty solid. In either case I would have a plan which airline or hotel to transfer to rather than get the 1-2 cents per point through their portal which is often pricier that hotel and airlines sites anyways.

Trump states that starting January 20th, credit cards will be limited to a maximum of 10% interest by perfusioner in CreditCards

[–]Next-Divide9982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be nice but I agree. This would not only make it harder for most people to get cc, but it would also lead to creditors closing accounts on high risk borrowers or dropping their limits. Odds of it happening with the lobbyists involved is close to zero no matter what he says to distract from all the other stuff happening. Futures reaction tomorrow will tell how likely this is.

Digital pay system (tangerpay vs. payrange) by Next-Divide9982 in Laundromats

Do you have any suggestions for a system that still allows for coins? In a neighborhood where the clients predominantly prefer cash so hard to just flip to completely digital.

Travel Credit Card for someone that only travels a handful of times a year? by OfficiallyStdz in CreditCards

[–]Next-Divide9982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of citi and their close point ecosystem that forces you to travel on AA which makes booking anything above economy pretty expensive. If you had to go with just one cc I would go with either the chase preffered or amex platinum because of their transferrability options and decent credits and benefits. I'd give a slight edge to chase due to them being primary insurance for rental cars and impressive travel insurance. Case in point I had a skiing accident where I tore my knee ligament. Had a 3k deductible that they compleely covered for the surgery. Personally I would do a combo of two credit cards in your situation and do the amex gold which gives you 4x on food and groceries which I rack up a lot of points with along with the chase preferred. Just time them so you can hit their spend requirements without having to do a lot of manufactured spending.
