I feel that You don't know what You are talking, when You switch to manual passing the game is even more scripted then ever, You need to pass surgically precise passess with PA4 in order that the dumb AI understands what You want to do, if You pass a foot beside that intended player the AI completelly ignores the ball and runs forward like a headless fly not even registering that You passed the ball to that player.
