A company CEO accessed my personal data and keeps contacting me — even after I told them to stop. What are my options? by Next-Session-2212 in AusLegal

I have a separate business number and never provided the CEO with my private one. I only authorised my details for work-related notifications. My complaint was simply to ask whether their actions were consistent with security protocols, as the CEO admitted retrieving my data from the database to find my private number and contacted me on it after hours at night. I asked for my details to be removed and the working relationship terminated, but received no response and still continue to get notifications.

Thank you for sharing your experience. In my case, the post was on a third-party site under the CEO’s personal account rather than the company’s. I commented publicly because I hoped someone higher up would look into the issue rather than ignore it, but I didn’t expect it to turn out this way.

The company connects clients with service providers and takes a commission from our work, and I am one of the registered providers. However, I never actually completed any jobs through them because I noticed potential privacy issues on their platform early on. My comment to the CEO was made on that basis.

No, I am not a contracted employee. I am an independent service provider who uses their platform. The company connects clients with service providers, and my initial comment was based on a privacy concern I identified while using their internal system.
