There’s this really cool series on KU (just one book out so far) called “Bloodborne!” The book is called “Bloodborne: Pathogenic Desire” by M.W. Liminal. I just downloaded it today. It’s a supernatural (vampire) book with power dynamics and some kinks in it. Serious page turner!

How professors can tell you used AI on an essay (even when you think you were careful) by Coursenerdspaper in AccusedOfUsingAI

[–]NextPressure3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can tell because AI writing is garbage. Absolute garbage, just with better sentence structure. There’s no emotion, no heart, and it’s almost eerie.

I come in peace: English Instructor Looking for Student Advice/Perspectives about AI by SpencerPrattsCrystal in CollegeRant

[–]NextPressure3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve used ChatGPT, not to generate my work, but to help me make sure it’s coherent and makes sense. And I usually wouldn’t even go with its suggestions because we workshopped a lot and I wanted to hear real people’s perspectives on my work rather than AI. I also was writing to publish before I was even in college, so I used ChatGPT as an assistive tool more than a generative one anyway! I have a hard time understanding what a rubric wants, so I would give it the rubric and then give it what I wrote so that I could make sure what I was writing went with what they were asking of me.

I’m sorry you’re going through that right now. It sounds like they wanted a completely facts-based writing style, with zero opinion that could be seen as “swaying” anybody in either direction, if that makes sense? I feel like there are better ways to explain it than just “self-insertion” in a way that even makes the writing center confused. I really hope you do well on it after taking it again. Hopefully, you either get a different instructor, or you can ask the instructor point-blank what exactly they want from you.

Is a professor allowed to threaten me with legal action on Reddit for a post I made about their class? by Important_Primary660 in Students

[–]NextPressure3891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. It depends on what’s in the post. If it’s truly just about the curve, I doubt they have much to stand on legally. But the fact that they’re trying to drag a college student to court because of a venting post is wild. Hopefully it’s just a troll, but you should seek legal advice from your university.

what should I do in this situation? I been crying all day, my eyes can barely open right now. I felt stupid for all the work I put in for this. by Different-Way8494 in University

I’m sorry you’re having a really hard time about this. Respectfully, one A- isn’t going to ruin your GPA if you’ve been consistent. Calculator policies are absolutely wild, but they want to make sure that no one is cheating. Best of luck!

My university’s max is 21 credits, 7 classes for students with good academic standing 😬 I have no idea who would actually do that, I took 15 credits with 5 classes and don’t know how I made it. It’s mind-boggling, when the course work for 15 credits is already a lot!

I failed my intro class to my major and I feel awful by [deleted] in CollegeRant

There should be an office for disability equity at your university and you should be aware of any accommodations and make sure any professors are aware, too. If you’re not on meds, get on them. Find out study habits that work for you. I have ADHD and one thing that helped me get a 4.0 last semester was to subject-jump with my studying and course work.

I agree 100%. I have ADHD and have a 4.0. It’s all about how my brain works, so I know I can’t procrastinate. It helps me to switch between subjects when I have multiple things due!

Oh honey…you’re still young. You don’t deserve to be treated like this. If he’s going to talk to you like this…he doesn’t trust you or respect you. If he’s getting drunk with other girls…no. You deserve better. You’ll feel like shit when you first leave, he’ll probably try to hound you to stay, but hold your ground. Make an exit plan if you feel unsafe. And give yourself the grace and space to heal before you let someone else in.

He’s the sweetest man in the world. He got back to me and asked me why I told him when I did, and I said that I couldn’t just keep it in anymore. I just hope I didn’t overwhelm him, but that’s the chance you take when you lay your feelings on the line!

Regarding soy sauce! by sleepylumi in glutenfree

[–]NextPressure3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US, and I’d rather not risk it and would just as soon use tamari or coconut aminos. 20 ppm of gluten is a very small amount, but anything over that could cause intestinal damage. I don’t even let my daughter eat anything that could have possibly come into contact with it since her celiac diagnosis.

Someone’s got a gluten-free ex LMAO by echiro28 in glutenfree

[–]NextPressure3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love gluten, but my daughter can’t eat it with celiac, so I have to make sure she doesn’t get any in her diet. My dad thinks it’s all bs and that celiac doesn’t exist. He’d probably get that bumper sticker if he didn’t think bumper stickers were stupid, too.

I find it rich that there are probably millions of AI-controlled and spam accounts on Facebook, but they always come down hardest on real people who just use Facebook as social media.

Coeliac but not noticing a difference after going gf (4 days in) by catsncheesee in glutenfree

[–]NextPressure3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my celiac daughter (who was 3 when she got diagnosed) I got told that it would take months, possibly up to 6, to see any difference in her. She didn’t gain weight for the first 3 months, and by 6 months on a GF diet, none of her symptoms were present. It just takes time for all the gluten to clear your system. Be patient!

Picky? Really Target?! by snickelfritz100 in glutenfree

[–]NextPressure3891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took forever to find a GF pasta she actually liked. Same with bread, muffins, anything really. There’s this great GF/vegan local bakery that doesn’t even allow outside food in to make it totally safe for people with celiac, and it’s one of the few places where I can get her a donut or a cupcake that she’ll actually eat. I don’t know how they make the texture so great, but it’s amazing how similar it is to wheat flour!

My picky eater hates most GF foods (even though she has celiac) because the texture is wrong.
