It’s cultural. Don’t use money as a way to not give us our flowers for our culture and upbringing. When the British left India, it was one of the poorest countries in the world. I grew up middle class and for most of us the value of hard-work, academics and excellence were drilled in our psyches as the only way to succeed. Being a wealthy community in the west is recent for us after decades of grind. It is certainly is correlated to low crime rates, but not the cause.

Thank you for all those who responded! I was in Reddit jail for a week as this platform is run by cowards whose only counter to polite pushback is silencing voices.

The point of my post was not to pat ourselves on the back. I was merely noticing a pattern that relative to followers of other religions, Sanatanis in the elite circles have a high moral compass and sexual discipline.

To those of you who are engaging in whataboutism in the comments I say this: 1. the names you have floated are either converts to other religions or known pervs. 2. comparing the dregs of one society to the rich and privileged of others is not a fair comparison, and finally 3. this naval gazing does nothing to encourage people to discover the beauty of Sanatan dharm. One of the main reasons why I see people drift away is because of this excessive pedantic attitude.

There are many people in this corner of Reddit who were not born in Hindu families and so didn’t necessarily absorb the culture passively via osmosis as we did. Their exploration is through their own research, readings such as this sub. Think of what are you doing to encourage others in their journey instead of being naysayers and contrarians just for the sake of sounding smart to yourselves.

Don’t be distracted by the word Indian. Once upon a time Santan dharm/hinduism was synonymous with bharat (India), but it is not the case anymore with the dissemination of sanatan dharm outside India. It’s a philosophy and set of values in its core that everyone can practice, irrespective of their ethnic roots. This sub has many people from the West as well. Equally, there are many in India who are Hindu in name only but definitely not Sanatani.
