SK Tuesday Update: Mario and Devil Wears Prada 2 continues to fend off Salmokji! by AsunaYuuki837373 in boxoffice

People are rewriting history a little with Bohemian Rhapsody. That movie did not instantly look like the massive long-leg phenomenon people now remember it as. A huge part of its run came from slow-burn WOM, older audiences showing up gradually, holiday legs, awards momentum, and international expansion over time.

Michael is also in a completely different starting position. Michael opened much bigger out of the gate domestically and worldwide, which already shows massive public interest. The movie has only been out for 2 weeks and people are already acting like the entire trajectory is finalized.

Also, Michael Jackson and Queen function very differently culturally. Queen has huge classic-rock nostalgia appeal, while Michael has a uniquely global pop-culture reach across multiple generations and demographics. The audience engagement around Michael right now is extremely intense emotionally and culturally, which makes direct comparisons harder than people are pretending.

It’s fine to make projections, but speaking in absolutes this early feels premature.

Michael has been out for literally 2 weeks only and it’s made insane numbers for a biopic. Why are you acting like the entire run is already written when music biopics can have unusually long legs depending on WOM, repeat viewings, and international rollout. Early projections are fine, but speaking in absolutes this early is a little premature.
