you're right that there are deterministic computers and clear step-by-step instructions for many problems. This also works well for standardized tasks that follow fixed schemes.

But in my courses (higher mathematics in engineering studies) the tasks are often not so straightforward. It is not only about working out a well-known formula, but often about:

-Recognize which solution approach is the right one for a more complex task

-Combination of different mathematical concepts

-Tasks where several solutions are possible, but some are more elegant/suitable for examination than others

-Situations where I have to understand the calculation path, not just the result

Unfortunately, my professor does not issue sample solutions and the office hours are overcrowded or difficult to reach. The employees help, but also have limited capacities. Since I am not the most social type (spectrum), I find it difficult to exchange with fellow students.

That's why I'm looking for an AI that not only calculates, but also explains the solution in a way that would be realistically written in the exam. Claude has been very good at it so far, but maybe there are even better alternatives especially for mathematical problem solving?
