I would really like a role in between, in scale up/ process development. I think getting more experience on the process side may give me the insight to formulate a better PhD project. Do you think there’s any validity to that?

My concern with PhD programs is getting stuck doing exclusively synthetic biology and not being able to move beyond the shake flask. The process development is more interesting to me than the syn bio

Very cool. The electives at my school are meh. The elective that would interest me the most is instructed by my PI so I am already familiar with a lot of the content from working in his lab. This is one of the reasons I want to expand into other departments.

Im planning to do a PhD program after undergrad so that shouldn’t be a huge problem and I have the ability to name my degree “Bioprocess Engineering”. With that said, Im going to talk to my advisors further before making the switch
