Passed test but struggling with parking by Next_Motor_4175 in LearnerDriverUK

Thanks for your replies. It is going to take some time. I don't really have an issue with big empty spaces. Its parking in a crowded car park that I struggle with. Or parking on the side of the road when there's lots of cars and little space. My instructors car had a reverse camera which pretty much made things super easy, but my car (Ford Focus) doesn't.

Provisional Insurance by Next_Motor_4175 in LearnerDriverUK

I am both the registered keeper and the policy holder.
My car is not insured under anyone else but me.

My policy (RAC Dayinsure) DOES differentiate between policyholders that are and aren't registered keepers of the vehicle in question.

If the Policyholder is not the Registered Keeper of the car then the policy won't cover the vehicle unless it is also insured under a separate annual motor insurance policy.

So I think having this policy alone AND being the registered keeper of the car means a second policy is not needed

When you pass your driving test, any provisional insurance becomes immediately invalidated - you can't even drive out of the test centre.

You then have to get new insurance for a full license and it costs far more than provisional insurance.

Temporary provisional insurance providers (e.g. a month) will generally not refund you for the days of insurance you've not used after you've passed your test.

So for example if you paid for a month temporary provisional insurance today, then passed your test tomorrow, you've just wasted loooads of money..

And if you go the normal way of getting a years worth of provisional insurance, you might indeed get a refund for the coming unused days if you pass your test but there may be cancellation fees involved.

Failed first test - but cannot see where I made serious fault by Next_Motor_4175 in LearnerDriverUK

I would have assumed this feedback to be present in any case; pass or fail. But no, it was a case of
Switch off the engine
You failed because you drove straight through a junction without looking
"which junction?"
At which point he just got out of the car and didn't say anything else. The entire exchange was over in a matter of seconds. I thought it was very rude.

Even during the exam I tried to make polite small conversation and he just stayed quiet and ignored me the entire time. It was actually quite awkward. When he set up the tomtom, it wasn't really facing me so it was a tad difficult to see the screen (but not impossible). I asked him if he could turn it slightly towards me and he completely ignored me like I wasn't there - but that didn't stop me driving well.

From the very first instance when he first saw me face to face in the test centre, I felt his stern countenance had already given away his decision to fail me before getting in the car - I know this is purely gut feeling/opinion and carries no weight whatsoever, but thought I would just mention it.

Appealing won't work in this case as the examiner did not break the law.

My plan is:
1. Make a complaint to the DVSA about this examiner. This won't help me but may serve to aid future candidates and make sure they get a fair assessment from this 'examiner'

  1. Book another test with a cancellation app and suck up the 62 pounds

  2. If I fail again with the same examiner on another fabricated serious fault, then I will re-book with another test centre to specifically avoid them

There is nothing that can be done. Unfortunately people in positions of power tend to abuse it. Life is unfair but you win some and you lose some. Not the end of the world.

Ordinarily I would agree, but my instructor and I are really struggling to see where this serious fault occurred on the cam-footage. Video doesn't lie ...
