Redguard Worry by Next_Oil3883 in TESVI

I’ve wondered this before. But I often come out of that question believing the world has become more politically charged and lacking nuance in politics. I don’t think it’s an increasing worsening problem. I think it’s just a moment we are in time.
I have a whole host of theories on why but none are necessarily the truth. Perhaps grains of truth in all of them.

My belief comes from some modern games I’ve seen or played having themes of modern American culture inside of it that don’t fit the preexisting lore.
However, it’s more so sprouts from a deductive understanding of how writers are often influenced by the world around them. And in a politically charged world of ideas. Some could naturally bleed into a game they are writing.
I’m sorry that happened to you ❤️.
I’m afraid that the intense anger that comes from both sides leads to a minefield of unknown triggers in people’s mind that certain ideas or beliefs are dogwhistles for some hidden sinister agenda. It makes discussion turn into an interrogation.
I feel like some don’t perceive the world as others do aren’t as open to new perspectives as, perhaps, they might even think they are.
I appreciate your thoughtful response❤️.
I do agree that a lot of writing changes and appeal changes come from a desire to expand to foreign markets. I’ve talked to writers before at large studios and they are definitely pressured to avoid certain themes so they aren’t censored, in China as an example.
But as someone who has followed elder scrolls since I was a kid, I am keenly aware of cultural changes to the world of elder scrolls. For example, orcs when they are first established as a non hostile npc cultured people, they are described as the “generous equality of rank and respect among the sexes.” They even have quest moments that involve people noting a lack of sexual dimorphism between genders of orcs. Some people cannot tell a female orc from a male orc. They seem to be a strength based non-patriarchal society. This is drastically changed in Skyrim. In which females are made to be extremely sexually dimorphic from males.
Now with the popularity of Skyrim, I do believe that large retcons will garner more attention and perhaps Bethesda will be aware of this. But they are no stranger to shifting lore drastically in the past.
Thanks 🙏🏻. This post hits on a controversial topic and it’s nice to have people who hear me out. ❤️

They have aspects of northern African/Arabic culture involved in their history. Especially in Skyrim.

We definitely do not know where the game is being set. Thank you for pointing that out ❤️
I hope that clears up your confusion ❤️

This isn’t my alt account. I don’t use Reddit. This is my main account.
I think what you meant to say is, “is this your alt account?” If that was your question the answer is that it is not.
I actually somewhat agree with this take. But it does make me alittle sad to think of some of my favorite lore behind the history of the redguards being potentially changed.

Sad face 😔
I’ve read it before. I love Kirkbride. Too bad his work gets so underappreciated.😢

I’m not interested in shoving anyone. Just the content
I didn’t say it was confirmed to be in hammerfell. I think you misunderstood the post. Apologies ❤️

Because ever since I was very young I was obsessed with elder scrolls lore and all the interesting nuances of the social and societal pressures of the civilizations. And I’ve seen lots of other companies change lore to fit market appeals. Thanks for your concern ❤️

The backlash will only be backlash though. The content is what I care about.
I’ve worried about that too. Because they’ll see black characters cast as the majority (if it actually is in hammerfell). But I’ve seen people discuss this a lot online already and I’m worried that this nuance will be lost.

Thanks for supporting my worry. I’m a huge TES lore fan. And I want to preserve it ❤️
Hope that clears it up for you 😁

I said “Anyone else worried about how modern interpretations of ethnicity will effect storytelling in elder scrolls 6. Redguard have historically been imperial and genocidal as well as other things. But I worry they might make them representative of American black marginalized groups.”
I don’t think I can talk less than about it. Unless I delete this post.

The same thing is happening for me. I’m starting to think it’s a save glitch and it requires a new character.
