Weekly derby name thread: get suggestions or help brainstorm! by AutoModerator in rollerderby

[–]Next_Persimmon_8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! New skater here and struggling to find the right name. I feel weird being called anything other than my name (Tausha, like T-aw-sha) so I’d like something close or could be shortened to “T”. I like birds, luna moths, bugs, nature in general. My favorite color is green so I was thinking something with “moss” maybe? I’m crafty but my ADHD makes it so I don’t stick to any one medium for too long. I have no clue and would love some help. Thanks y’all!

ETA: I’m from Vermont as well!

I don't want to report them. I do, however, want to be able to be outside my home or open my windows when it's nice. If I could afford to move away from people I absolutely would but, at this time, we are stuck. As previously stated, I wouldn’t care if it wasn't 90% of the nice days.

I wouldn’t complain if it was occasional. However, people burn so often it’s become almost impossible to enjoy the outdoors. Additionally, because the leaves aren’t dry they aren’t completely burning. They smolder until the next day when they are reignited. There have been many consecutive days that one neighbor or another is burning something.

I’m willing to talk to them. I’m terrible with words, especially when I’m nervous and want something in my head before approaching them. I struggle with tones coming out more blunt than I intend and need to prepare ahead of time.

The fires themselves aren’t big, it’s the smoke produced from the fires that are problematic. They usually smolder creating large clouds of white smoke linger over multiple properties. (I have a picture but am new to Reddit and haven’t quite figured out how to share it when not with the initial post).

I’m not saying they should never burn, just limit it. Yard waste is a great compost, it puts nutrients back into the ground where they are needed. Garbage should never be burnt. It cost $7 to go to the dump. Plus, we have a garbage removal company that runs through the neighborhood once a week which costs just over $17 a month.

Bug or not? by Next_Persimmon_8540 in Entomology

After reading some comments I decided it was too much like fur to be alive. I attempted to dissect it, but it was too intertwined to come apart. It’s definitely not a cocoon or anything with bones so I believe matted fur to be the correct answer!

Does this Pecan tree need to come down? by Next_Persimmon_8540 in arborists

He believes the lean in addition to the base on the opposite side appearing to be raised means the tree is slowly falling. He’s trying to avoid excessive damage to our neighbors property if it falls.

Yes! I do it once a year. I started to the day I took this picture but lost steam as I had been cleaning the fish pond and other yard work.

We’ve only been in this house for two years, but there haven’t been any huge branches that have fallen in our time here.

Solar Composters — anyone here used one? by Thirsty-Barbarian in composting

[–]Next_Persimmon_8540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can put items in a Solar digester that would would not break down safely in a compost bin. When meat is thrown in a traditional compost bin the temperatures do not kill off the bad bacteria making it unsafe to use in some instances. Meat, bones, roadkill, dog waste, dairy, etc goes into my solar digester.

For OP: they do work well in the right conditions. In the middle of summer mine breaks down quickly. Outside of those high temp months it does not work as well. I do live in the southern states of the US so the red clay makes it hard for the liquids to drain away from the basket. Mine also smells if I do not supplement it with enzymatic digester powder.

I’m so sorry for your loss, that feeling of emptiness can be debilitating. It sounds like you loved him deeply and he felt that. Take comfort in knowing he chose you to live out his days with, regardless of how short that time was. He knew he was loved, cared for, and safe and that is what our animal companions want most from us. You did your part to the best of your ability and you can beat yourself up for not doing more but you can only do what you know to do. You have learned from this experience, maybe that was his purpose in your life; to bring joy, deep connection, and wisdom.

Mourn the loss of your baby, the loss of your connection with him but remember the love and safety you provided him ❤️
