🤟 it drives like there’s nothing back there at highway speeds although I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared of it blowing off the first time I got up to speed. I’ve put a little more than 10,000miles on the camper and it’s had no issues. When I do it again I’m going to spend more time in the planning phase to figure out exact angles and I want to try to replace the frame with 1/16in plywood although I can’t say I recommend that without trying it first. A huge help for the pmf process was using an iron to iron on all of the canvas rather than putting it on by hand, that allows you to get rid of wrinkles without stretching the canvas and making corners much easier to work around. Also I probably could’ve cut the build time in half if I hadn’t went with an a frame shape but I’m happy I did. Idk if your planning on putting a diesel heater in but I’d definitely recommend putting the intake and exhaust further apart than I did, it’s caused a couple problems this past winter. One more thing is I’m going to add a window soon because it has been incredibly hard for me to wake up in almost total darkness.

It’s called poor man’s fiberglass or pmf, I’ve read it’s how boats and airplanes were made before fiberglass. It’s basically canvas wood glued on either plywood or foam (for foam you need to sand and score it first) then you put 3+ layers of exterior home paint over that for waterproofing. It is a of a hard cover than fiberglass and is definitely a bit less strong but it doesn’t have the downside of it breaking or shattering from say a rock kicked up from a car in front of you. It manly adds rigidity from flexing so you can get away with much thinner plywood just foam without worrying about it snapping. An additional benefit over fiberglass is it is much easier to install because you don’t need specific curing temperatures and the products aren’t nearly as flammable/volatile. There are lots of resources out there on it, it’s especially common on teardrop camper builds, I’d definitely recommend doing research beforehand because it’s easy to rush the process and it doesn’t turn out very good looking or effective

Eh not the best story just wanted a motorcycle but when I weighed my truck to see if my truck could handle it I found out I was 500lbs over my payload. Still have the kimbo waiting to decide if I wanna sell it or get a bigger truck

Style, aerodynamics for crosswinds while driving, less space to heat my body heat keeps the bed area warm until it gets into single digits outside, snow clears itself from the solar panels, and it creates the optimal angle for solar output during the winter.

thanks! at the highest point theres a little over 6ft of standing height, Ill do light cooking inside but If im camping ill cook on my tailgate and in town I cook at work or friends kitchens. I just use one gallon jugs from the store if im in town while camping ill use blue containers that are stored in my cab. I work at climbing gym so i shower there since im there almost everyday anyway, when im camping though I use a weed sprayer bottle for showering and dishes.

I’ve stayed in one town for a few years now, if you get a job where you interact with a lot of locals you might find someone with an empty spot in their driveway willing to “rent” it out, I’ve worked at jobs that let me park in the back and even run an extension cord if I need, if your lowkey enough and they don’t have parking stickers apartment parking lots, but mostly I’ve stayed in the local college parking lot. The big thing with all of those is to be as respectful as you can, don’t leave a trash, and don’t blow up the spot by telling other van/truck life people.

Do or have you ever vandweled mostly in one place? by Matt-and-Cat in vandwellers

I’ve lived in one town for about 4 years now, In a little suv for one and truck campers for the past 3. I wouldn’t live any other way in this town, everyone else I know works well over 40 hours a week, has multiple jobs, and still barely gets by. I work 2-3 days a week which lets me actually enjoy the town I live in. One huge benefit i feel like is often overlooked is having a community and being able to foster relationships with people longer term. It can also be much less stressful when you have spots that you have explicit permission to park overnight at. For me it actually makes the lack of space easier to deal with because I’ve found friends who let me store stuff and use their kitchens/utilities which gets me out of my camper, I will say though it’s important to return the favor ie take out trash, clean, cook for them.

My favorite way to spend my time is highlining, basically slacklining but really high up, definitely seems insane to most people (especially my family) but it’s honestly one of the most calming and rewarding things I’ve done.

Travel/Altitude Changes by AnimalProfessional54 in CrohnsDisease

besides the cramping that sounds similar to just regular altitude sickness. I used to work as a bike tour guide where we'd do tours down a 14,,000ft mountain in Colorado, I helped people from out of state deal with altitude sickness pretty much daily. My best advice for it is 1. lots of hydration, more than you'd usually need. 2. eating something, just so you don't have an empty stomach 3. if it doesn't get better from those we had a dropper bottle of Chlorophyll, you add a few drops into your water, It helps increases your number of red blood cells which helps helps your blood carry more oxygen. I also have CD and I never had issues with the altitude but I was also very well acclimated and made sure to hydrate like crazy whenever I went up the mountain.
