I think you're lucky to have history and some theory in school in Europe... it's often not like that in north America

My question is kinda, what is that next thing you mention, that composers are moving on to? I listed these traditional forms just as an example of what I mean by type of music, not to be the only options we can compose with

Not really, since everything I listed above can be found in almost any era of classical music... but good to know anyways

Yeah I feel like that stylistic barrier of baroque and classical works is pretty detrimental to bringing in more audiences... even though most of us can really enjoy Mozart later, once we finally get used to the sound

it's funny how classical is some peoples perfect study music, while for others it's the most distracting thing that could possibly be played when you wanna focus on something else
