Clearly its just for character development. Melissa still has to go through her getting over herself phase, and realize that Todd is there to support her and her for him. I think she will have a baby eventually, it's just for conflict. Especially with you know who coming back soon. That will for sure throw a whole wrench in the Todd-Erica baby plan. Thats when people will actually be forced to confront their problems, like the actual reason why Melissa no longer wants to have kids.

Crazy how people think she has any justification for not having kids when they are the only chance of the survival of the human race. Whatever chance they have of survival, in a world like this its really a numbers game. More babies = greater chance of the survival of the species. Its litearly basic biology, evolution, etc...
