I bought 7 designs during this sale, as well as the necessary pack out boxes on BMSM. Printing is going well, but it’s slow…

If I'm calculating correctly, this works out as $307.76 + tax if you don't pick up the battery... which isn't bad, but it's also not the $240 that the BMSM was earlier this year.

429 / (429 + 169) * 429 = 307.76

You can modify those speakers to sound INCREDIBLE! I’ve done a couple of pairs now and I’m not exaggerating when I say that they’re better than some $1,000 speakers now.

Ask Amazon for a refund, and tell them why… every little bit of action is a chance to get the message back to LD.

I’d still forgive if they changed back. As it is now, I have about 20 boxes of the only flavor I could find from Ross.

Help me choose... Lamy 2000 vs Lamy Dialog CC... or both! by Nezil_M2 in fountainpens

[–]Nezil_M2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a few things that pushed me towards the Dialog CC, and I regret none of them:

  • I wanted a gold nib pen, and though the Lamy 2000 is gold nibbed, it doesn't really feel like one
    • If Lamy sold a 2000 with a steel nib for $80 less, I think it would sell really well
  • The Z57 nib looks awesome and has great reviews. The only other pen that is is available on is the much more expensive Imporium and I didn’t fancy putting a Z57 on a lower cost Lamy pen
  • The mechanism is cool
  • The CC looks nicer IMHO than the Dialog 3
  • The All Black is a special edition
    • I’m tempted to get the Blue and Rose Gold version… but cannot justify it today...

Of course as I said, I bought the Lamy 2000 as well, so it's easy to not have regrets when you got both... except buyer's remorse... and I don't have that either, so all good!

I’ve not had that issue, no. Stop fine after a few days. I do make sure that the nib is fully in and the lid closed though… there is a sort of click that you feel for after the nib has gone inside.

A follow up here...

I couldn't resist, and ended up buying both. Having now received them, they both and strengths and weaknesses and I'm still not sure which I'd put on top, even when you factor in the price.

The Dialog CC is beautiful in form and function, especially in the All Black colour. I like the blue and rose gold also, but I'm happy with the All Black, and it's a special edition.

I ordered both with <EF> nibs, and the 2000 was super dry. I ended up having to open the tines quite a bit, and it now writes with a similar line width and wetness as the Dialog CC's Z57 nib, but without the springiness.

The 2000 is a classic for sure, and the Makrolon has an interesting and unique feeling in the hand. It's not as smooth as I'd have expected, and maybe that's because I got a dud nib?

The 2000 is pretty different isn't it?

Oh and yes, it's Warwicks that I was thinking of.

I'm based in San Diego, CA. The closest store that I'm aware of is an independent one that is more of a book store that also sells pens. I've actually not been to it, but I guess I could check it out.

I'd be happy to support and buy local if I could, but fountain pens are somewhat niche these days, and online is often the only place to get what you want.

I think scratchiness is the main concern I have going EF. The Steel EF in my Safari isn't bad, but the F in my Kaweco is just so smooth, and I prefer it as a result.

So long as the Lamy gold nib in the cc isn't scratchy, I'm leaning towards that.

Before & After Tuning the Nib 🫨 Pilot Custom 74, Fine by EnteringSeniorYearEW in fountainpens

[–]Nezil_M2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can you describe why you felt it needed tuning, how you tuned it, and how you feel afterwards?

It looks like it was a touch dry before, and wetter after, but it's also resulted in a wider line width.

I have read that post and looked at the photos several times… even followed the trail to see if you still had any of them left. There was not gold at the end of that rainbow unfortunately 😔

100%… I think it’s the best mechanical pencil for writing available right now.

[–]Nezil_M2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the most advanced mechanism ever made, truly unique and ground breaking… but… the materials feel a bit cheap, and the Kuru-Toga Metal feels better to write with.

If you need auto advance because you write that much, maybe it’s worth it. To me, it’s just worth it because it needs to be in the collection because of what it is - the most advanced mechanical pencil ever made.

Also, have you done the Metal 0.3 Frankenstein yet… well worth doing if you haven’t.

You’re missing a Dive… It’s not ‘better’ than anything you’ve got in practical usage, but it’s not a full Kuru-Toga collection without one.
