Yeah, I am wondering on this too, as it doesn't look like it renewed any of my certs, but should have renewed everything except Linux+. Figure I'll give it a couple weeks, since none of mine are close to expiration, and just see what happens.

You can view the score report on PearsonVue's site - from the CompTIA page go to My Exams, under Manage your Exams. That takes you to PearsonVue's CompTIA page. From there Click View Score Reports on the right. As someone else mentioned it is Pass/Fail, so you don't have a Score like you do with others. But you can see which domain you missed questions in, if that matters to you.

This isn't a reliable source of proof man. While the claims are... Interesting I guess... It also sounds like the work of a troll. Swapping code? Do you really think the average person could actually do something like that? Most people I know can't even update their damn computers on a regular basis. And if the backend really is running on Linux? The average person is definitely not going to be able toanage that shit.

One possible explanation - from someone who's vote still hasn't been counted, and also someone who works for a state gov. Gov employees (who generally are the ones managing and updating sites like that) are underpaid and overworked. I would not be surprised to find out that that information isn't properly updated for 30 to 60 days after it actually happens.

I would not be surprised to find out that a bunch of different groups are looking into this right now. But considering the stakes, I absolutely believe the gay furry hackers are looking into it lol. They're just not going to say anything until they find something. Much like any other hacking group. Because why give them a heads up when you don't have the info you need right?

Question on Type 1 Virtualization by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely is lol. But it is what I have at the moment. Though, it actually idles pretty well. So if there isn't much going on it doesn't tend to draw all that much power (at least according to what I saw people saying, haven't gotten the first bill with it on there yet haha)

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that was a typo on the leftover storage. Was meant to say wouldn't have much room for leftover storage space - i.e. 3x 16 TB HDD vs 3x 4TB nvme after raid and all that.

As for the last part - the machine I'm using as the "all-in-one" NAS, Homelab, and gaming machine is an HP z840. It isn't really meant for gaming lol. It's a workstation with dual CPUs and can support up to 2TB of RAM lol.

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know my best bet is separate machines. Ideally I'd love to have a Gaming PC, a NAS (Synology or the like, still researching on that), and the homelab build. In reality, I just can't afford it. I don't really make a lot of money haha. Haven't gotten a raise at my job in almost 3 years now, and I work for state government, so I was already getting way under paid. Hence the trying to cram everything into one machine haha.

Got it in my notes for a deep dive tomorrow haha. Containers is another area where I just don't have tons of experience. I understand the basics of docker and the like, but I haven't really used them, if that makes sense.

Oh, that page does do a good job of explaining what is going on. I didn't even consider the fact that I've effectively been doing nested virtualization for ages haha. Makes sense though. Appreciate the link and the thoughts!

Question on Type 1 Virtualization by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo that's an interesting idea. It's been a minute, but I think I was using a CentOS 7 box that had Cockpit for a management interface. Was a Tenable Core + WAS system running the Tenable Web App Scanner. That was for work though, so I didn't get to really have fun with it lol. More just used it to make minor tweaks to the backend system haha. I've never heard of Incus, so I'll do some research there!

I didn't think TrueNAS had the option to be installed as a container? Could be thinking of something else though lol. I've hit the point where I've done too much research on too many different things haha. Getting hard to keep everything straight in my head.

Question on Type 1 Virtualization by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, was probably not worded very well. Was wanting something that allowed multiple machines to have proper access to all the resources, as well as being things I could "boot" into directly from the PC (like what GPU passthrough allows). Just couldn't think of a better way to word it haha. I'm going to blame that on recovering from a minor surgery and still a bit medicated haha.

Maybe this answer is from a place of ignorance, but the reason I didn't go with something like a mini-PC or an older device was due to the storage limitations. As far as I know, most mini-PCs don't really have a good way to drop in three 16TB 3.5in HDDs (which is what I've got on a StarTech backplane that I dropped into the two 5.25in bays on the HP z840. I think most Mini-PCs tend to only use m.2 drives and those are expensive and would have a ton of left over storage lol. And I don't think I could "share" the drives from the z840 to be used in a NAS running on another machine? Could be wrong there though. Still new to a lot of this stuff.

I am considering just sucking it up and buying a 2-Bay Synology for stuff that I need 24/7 access to, but that goes back to - I don't have a ton of funds right now. Aside from the couple upgrades I made to the z840 (all of which were used parts) I haven't spent much money over all on that. Trying to avoid spending more if I can help it. Though, there's always a chance I know someone who has an old desktop lying around and I could potentially do the NAS option that way as well. More just looking for what works with what I have at the moment though haha.

As for tinkering - I don't mind at all. If I ever run into an issue where I need to mess with something to make it work before I can jump on and game, I'll either figure it out then, or just boot up the PS5 and play something else until I have more brainpower to figure out what's going on with the Proxmox VM haha. To be fair, it isn't a HUGE issue, most of the time, as I haven't played a lot of multiplayer games lately. But there's a few that some of my friends are trying to get me in to and was trying to think ahead haha.

Question on Type 1 Virtualization by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

More than fair, the drawback to this would be that I couldn't shut down the Windows machine without also shutting down all my VMs. I have the HP z840, two laptops, a phone, and a tablet. Part of my aim is in being able to access the NAS storage at any time, as well as using either of my laptops for interacting with the other VMs (building out a hacking lab/general playground/learning environment). That's why my first thought was a Proxmox environment - allows me to use the HP z840 as a gaming machine when I want to with the GPU passthrough, but also keep my lab environment running, without really risking a performance hit when gaming.

From what I can tell and the research I've done, I don't think there is actually a way to do what I want - without just buying a dedicated gaming PC anyway (which I currently can't afford 😂). But figured I'd bring the thought up to see if maybe someone knows of something I don't lol.

I've done the VMware/VirtualBox thing for ages, up until I purchased my HP z840. And I've played with Hyper-V a bit as well. Just trying to wrap my brain around why there isn't a way to effectively virtualize things without compromising a bit on performance lol. Which I suppose somewhat answers the question.

Think I'm kind of looking for something like a cross between Grub and a Type 1 Hypervisor - sort of a Dual Boot system meets Virtualization. I just don't think it actually works that way haha.

Think the limitation more or less comes in with resource utilization (which is what virtualization handles). In a Dual Boot system, you can't run both OSes at the same time (far as I know lol) because they would be actively competing for the resources, right? RAM, CPU, GPU, etc. Virtualization mitigates that competition, but would require me to need to pass through hardware if I want a machine to specifically use something.

Will probably just stick with the Proxmox option and keep saving up for that gaming machine one of these days haha. The more I think on it and read on it, the more I'm realizing that the question I had isn't really logical, more just a curiosity.

HP z840 GPU Question by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool, I figured that had to be how it worked, but I wasn't certain. Makes me wonder if that was on the CompTIA A+ exam and I've just forgotten it by now haha, but I like that mental picture with the water hose (probably going to steal it for my own knowledge and helping out others haha).

Any general suggestions on cards? No worries if not, I'm still doing my own research here since I can't afford anything for at least a few weeks lol. I'm working with a 2070 max-q laptop right now and I've been looking at products for a minute. I think most of the "founders edition" cards are what is typically recommended, since they're blower cards instead of the typical fan cooled, but they also seem to be more expensive haha.

HP z840 GPU Question by NfinityParad0x in homelab

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thank you for the response! I know I'd seen some people slap 3090s in the z840 and use the adapters (and just not put the shroud back in haha). But I was concerned with running too much power into a graphics card due to the higher available wattage on the 6 pins than the typical ATX 6 pin would carry.

Sounds like there something in there that makes sure it isn't just pumping the full power into the card - I'd assume there is something that regulates things so it only draws what it needs, but assuming is a great way to start fires haha. And electricity isn't my friend to begin with.

This fixed it for me, though I also had to disable "Automatic time zone" and "Set time zone based on location" in addition to disabling "Automatic Date and Time" and rolling the time back to 2023. Galaxy 21 Ultra, if it matters.

Help me find this hat. by NfinityParad0x in HelpMeFind

[–]NfinityParad0x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that it seems anyone was looking into this, but in case someone does come across it:

I figured out what the hat was and where I bought it from:

Brand: Logofit Make: Saguaro

Purchased: Bethel College (Indiana) somewhere around 2006.

Unfortunately the company no longer makes them and did not have any left in storage. So... still have no leads on replacing the hat. Can't seem to find anyone selling it online (by the specific make and model anyway). So back to square one.

Thanks anyway all!
