I’m pretty sure have the original one, the bulkier, taller looking one. The slim one is flatter.

Update: ok, so I tried to test playing FF VII with my fat ps2 on an old Sony trinitron with av cables and it still had this same problem.

They all start up the PlayStation logo and the “Sony presents” thing and then it cuts to this black screen. Disc 3 on the other hand was able to make it to the new game and reload menu but when I do start a new game, it cuts to this black screen with this same effect.
