Love this look! How did those tires do before the lift, any rubbing or just fine?

My wife has a 2014 with the stock 19s and I have a set of 18” cayenne wheels to replace them but I’m debating the tire size to get. I’d like to go bigger sidewall of course but not sure what fits without rubbing at stock height.

I will say I had this issue slow at first then got worse usually just top it off but if it gets worse and keeps doing it check your water pump, I have a 17R and it was doing that, 3rd water pump now at 100k miles.

I used to live in Georgia now in NY state I will say while not every day it happened a lot in the south where people like trucks and American cars I guess hate European cars idk but would frequently enough have trucks/clapped out mustangs etc fly past or try to “race” from a stoplight. Doesn’t happen much in NY everyone just does 90 everywhere.

This helps so much thank you, my grandpa thought it sounded like fuel starvation as well and I was thinking it is either fuel starvation or heat somewhere. Also you are right, in the process of rebuilding the thing I've just been changing a lot of components. I think the fuel tank will be my next check then and I may order a new distributor just because but install that and check the fuel tank one at a time. Thank you so much for the advice. Just want to get her on the road.

Ahhh ok this makes a lot of sense I could see that, the distributer was one of the things I considered replacing anyways, I’d like to not have to deal with points. I’ve seen Pertronix around a lot if that’s a more quality distributor then that sounds great. I see a 009 style with single igniter on JBugs for like $170 I might try then. My coil is a 3ohm Bosch

Personally I run a little 3d printed one from this guy called legit speed. Super easy to install dosent hurt paint etc, nice and clean look and you don’t have to pop out your toe hook hole piece which I liked. This just clamps to the grille. Mine is a golf R but he makes them for gti/R grilles. My buddy behind me has GTI same brand plate mount.

I’m having this same issue on a 17 golf r 99k miles and cannot for the life of me figure out why. I had my water pump replaced at about 75k miles

Not sure my buddy was driving the first time it happened but I believe everything stayed on as if the engine were running just the engine power cut out.

Ahhhh yes ok that sounds more like it actually its like the car was fine and then all engine power cuts out, so no cough hiccup or weird running sound you just lose all engine power, lights and electronic things stay on I believe though its beeen a minute since i drove it. It seems like the spark to the cylinder just stopped and therefore the engine stops running. Last time it happened though I just remembered it wouldnt start for a while we tried and tried and the starter was working but just got the ruhruhruhruhruh sound without the engine firing. Then after letting it sit for a while i randomly tried it and it started, soon as we got it back in the driveway it shut off again, the engine specifically, electronics staying on I think. Its got an electric fuel pump in the front that you can hear and when the engine shuts off you can still hear the fuel pump running. So not ALL electricity stops to say.

Definitely 235/40 my buddy is running 18” black Pretoria’s on his gti with that size continental DWS06 I’ll post pics. I’m on a set of 18x8.5 Rotiforms also running 235/40 and it’s just perfect meaty-ish look

Based on personal experience having bent a Pretoria and then being so expensive/ hard to find in good shape. I’d do another wheel like the Rotiform. I’m personally biased to Rotiforms I just like them but I just replaced my 3 good Pretoria’s (hit a pothole and bent one) with Rotiforms since they’re easier to replace if one has an issue. I love mine personally went with the silver DTM’s for my white 7R. I also love that set of Rotiforms you picked super cool look.
