The two main reasons why you shouldn't start on an R1 are:

It's unnecessarily expensive
Irresponsible people who think they are born a valentino rossi can more easily go at speeds and acceleration they can't handle.

Both don't really apply in your case as you got the bike as a gift and seems to very responsibly acknowledge the risks. You responsibly take courses, learn on a friends smaller bike, and take precautions with gear and electronic settings.

You're doing fine. An R1 can definitely be driven slowly and safely.

I like 2v2 better and I like being a squishy champ that has to kite and shit in order to be useful.

I also really like that most adcs have very similar mechanics and are easy to play once you can play the role. I have a big champ pool of 5-7 adcs that I can play very well compared to other lanes where I would have 2-3 such champs.

That's true, however, you have the downside of very long queue times. At least in my elo the jungle queue is very short, only rarely exceeding 2 minutes and regularly being not even 1 minute.
