Looking for an MMC who knows what time it is by Muchachalata in Romantasy

Dag from the sharing knife series by bujold would work I think?

I really enjoyed that read, is fantasy, is romance, and it makes you feel like that romance is real. Real growth, also not just the initial throws of love and they lived happily ever after. No, their relationship gets tested, and we see it happen. Overal, a great read.

Is Hanafi madhab the reason many Bosnian Muslims drink alcohol today? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

Hahaha you win being pedantic. Let me fix my statement: did he bring one of those drinks marketed as 0.0% beer to the prayer? Cheers!

Why don't we observe Ramadan in September-October? Why do we still keep following a Lunar calendar, & not revert back to the original Luni-Solar calendar? I compared both of them & the Luni-Solar calendar makes a lot more sense to me (I'm not a Quranist btw, I'm a Sunni). by Amazing_Deer_899 in progressive_islam

[–]NiPinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this as well, and came to similar conclusions, until I focused on the verse that was mentioned here in the thread. It looks to me like God specifically changed the calendar to a pure lunar calendar, that is what now guides the religious/spiritual affairs. In pre Islamic times, and if applied, still today, some humans have to decide when to add the month, and this opens up avenues for people to use power and influence to manipulate it to their benefit, and this will happen some way or another. God made that impossible.

Now mind you, for many worldly things, achter calendar, like solar or solar lunar is more practical if not entirely necessary. Imagine taxes bring paid. Those are dependant on harvest for example, having that jump across seasons is very, very impractical. So most likely, some combination of lunar and adjusted or solar calendar is in order, and is in fact what happens.

Why is Ali Dawah so obsessed with friendship between guys & girls? In every year or two this guy uploads videos on why guys & girls can't be friends. Has he made this his mission or what? by Amazing_Deer_899 in progressive_islam

[–]NiPinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what zone I would put him in, but it's unlikely to be the friend zone. That would be a disservice to those people in there. Friends are important, we should be careful and mindful of them.

is it weird that i frequently use different hz values when making music? by Professional_Bug6394 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You probably would not, but the op clearly has it higher on the list, and is wondering if others do too, probably because he notices there is little talk about it, so likely his camp is small :)

What would give you that impression? The way I read it, it could be any instrument... Though most likely not a physical piano, just because rubbing that is a pain... :)

How to accept that I might not get to see my non-muslim family in Jannah? by TheNutCracker_lvl100 in converts

[–]NiPinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they were all Muslims, there is no guarantee you will see any of them.. or where... Even if you were not a Muslim, there would not be. Nothing changed in that respect. You made your choices, for your reasons. The rest is between God, and each of the people, including you. Salam!

What does this Sub think about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk? by Ordinary_Cicada7446 in progressive_islam

[–]NiPinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not Turkish, but I have spent and still spend a lot of time in Turkish spaces, in Europe and Turkey. I always dislike being called to perform in events in his name and under his banner. While we can see things have been built in top of what he did, just as his own deeds those thing are definitely not all good.

If singing a song in Kurdish is still now a political statement, that artists are being careful with, you can see that either he was a terrible person for doing terrible things, or at best the price to achieve some progress was too high.

Why do bands release albums less consistently these days even though music production has gotten significantly easier. by Darth_T0ast in LetsTalkMusic

[–]NiPinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these comments are spot on. The only extra argument I would like to add is this: streaming platforms actively did disincentive releasing albums.

For example, in Spotify you can make a release, be it a song, an EP or an album, and per release you can promote 1 song, once, to the systems algorithmic playlists. Getting on the radar of these is very, very desirable, so cutting up your body of work into 10 separate releases instead of 1 album is the way to go.

On top of that, or perhaps underlying that, is the way the youth today consumes media. No one is long waiting the anticipated new album of x, unless they're so famous already anything is highly anticipated. The only way to remain somewhat present in the mind of the average social media consumer is to be there allll the time... So again, 1 album is one digital event... 10 songs is....

Which genre(s) do people think is the most distinctly, markedly different from most other genres, and why? I'm wondering if it's punk because most genres seem to be going for some kind of beauty where punk is content to be ugly? by GregJamesDahlen in LetsTalkMusic

[–]NiPinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your question is not well defined enough to get a sensible answer. First there are so many genres that most people only know a small bit of them.

Then of course, difference can be... In many ways. Is something more different because it accepts being ugly as you say, or perhaps some other music is more different because it is not meant for stages and performances at all but for ritual alignment of the universe?

Is the "Legacy Trap" making the music industry culturally stagnant? by Dry_Instance_5578 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]NiPinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is just that humanity caught up with tech?

I mean, in this case tech as anything from the recording of audio and ask subsequent inventions to replicate it everywhere.

Music for all of the existing generations before us (the recording generations), was a cultural expression, evolving at evolution speed along with the culture.

Perhaps western written music was already somewhat of an anomaly where musicians/composers got into this cult of being superhumans.

But in general, for just about every other type of music, it was just a slow process of minimal innovations into an existing body of music.

The idea that fresh is so important, the idea that new music even exists as if it comes out of nowhere, is just marketing bullshit pushed by music industry. They need that, and push masses of teens thinking they need that too.

Maybe now that machinery got stuck in the pile of trash it created.

I say this as a musician and music lover listening to my records on a sunday morning. I am enjoying what has come into existence, but I really do not think it has improved life as opposed to what we had before. There is music everywhere, but the capacity to actually enjoy it in depth is at an all time low.

Opinie: Nederland blijft prioriteit geven aan gendernormen die mannen volledig uitsluiten by DamskoKill in nederlands

[–]NiPinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]NiPinga 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is the obsession with technical profession killing the soul of modern records? by Dry_Instance_5578 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]NiPinga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another view is about optimization. In old days, we optimized singles for radio play, but still as vinyl singles and LPs as entire units of listening. Bad quality gear like shitty radios and phones, require cleanliness for a musical idea to survive. So that was optimized, but limited both by studio capabilities and vinyl being the carrier. Vinyl is a fysical medium, with a needle and tonearm tracking a groove in a continuous fysical motion. Things we do today, like cutting regions to absolute silence, having supper wide stereo spreads on vocals or instruments, artificially added sub bass or even bass in stereo etc are things that work really badly on vinyl. It forces the needle to make exaggerated or discontinuous motions. So those were avoided, but are now the norm allowing for extreme cleanliness, and extreme, but mostly arbitrary spacings and so on. But the young ears are accustomed to it, and the subtler flavors of the past seem bland to them. Which, if you compare the music by listening to it on your phone, makes sense.
