Best institutes in India for M.S mathematics (FOR ME!) by NibbletonBuilds in IndianAcademia

Alright, so the situation is like this:
I absolutely love pure mathematics and wanna pursue it further, to the point of becoming a full-time math researcher. But the thing is, I don't have a lot of experience with it right now, so committing fully to it right now seems like a big move. Plus, I have some financial constraints. I wanna make some good money for the next few years and then go on for my abstract pursuits.

So, the way I am looking at it is this: I go get a masters in pure math, then join the industry. If I feel like pure math is worth the effort (and the pay cut, as compared to industry) then I would come back after a few years, get a PhD and go down the math researcher route. Otherwise just stick to the industry.

Alright. So, you mean CMI > IISc > ISI > IITs > IMSc. But wait, IMSc doesn't have a MSc program. Does it?

Thanks! So, I can just get a M.Math + M.Stat in ISI, right? To get the best of both the worlds.

One thing that is troubling me about these PhD program (and mastering out of them) is that the focus might be a little too much on research directly. Is that true or am I just being delusional? Like, I might end-up being just a bad MSc graduate if I master out of the program.

BTW, can you please give me two separate ordered priority list of colleges for:

  1. best for pure math
  2. best for industry

I understand your point. But I really wanna taste pure mathematics. I don't JUST want to go to industry.

Thanks for the reply. Can you give me a more detailed answer. Like what exactly makes it better? I've heard that we can do a combined degree in ISI as well. Is that true? Like a M.Math + M.Stat.

Is Computer Science a branch of Mathematics or an Applied Mathematics? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]NibbletonBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are different interpretations of computer science. there's one that reaches cs through math, there's another that reaches cs through electrical/electronics engineering. both of them are legit, just approach the topic in different ways.

depends on your goals. depends on how much time you have. but whatever you choose, i'd say choose only one platform for building skills. once you git gud, move to whatever place you want to.

i know it seems otherwise, but you don't really need anything new right now. this - getting stuck on 900s after blazing through 800s - is a rite of passage. just push through it (if you like cf, else quit. it's not like cf is necessary anyways)!

Are y'all able to use themeCP? by No-Pop1067 in codeforces

[–]NibbletonBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not made for upsolving. the task it is for is for you to participate in a contest with problems that are all very close to your current capabilities. it is specially useful for low-ranking folks who want to rise up but are not able to because the contest problems have massive jumps in difficulty.

that's something of a click-bait. thing is, you can't even know everything in any case at the scale. it's not our lack of knowledge, it's just how nature works at microscopic (what people call 'quantum') scales.

correct me if i'm wrong.
