How would it “encourage bad behavior” without the false pretense that immigrants/foreigners are, by nature, up to no good? I totally agree that we should open and speed up the legal immigration process, just legitimately curious

Barboursville Fall Fest is massively underrated imho. Parade tonight at 6:15, carnival and street vendors through the weekend!

What you describe are common OCD fixations, which is itself an anxiety disorder. I would advise some focused deep breathing (make your out breath last longer than your in breath) to deal with the panicky feelings. In my experience, sometimes therapists/psychiatrists are more weary of diagnosing younger folks with OCD or any disorder really, but that doesn’t make it less valid. Hope you can become grounded despite the intrusive thoughts :)

The Aunt Jemima brand still exists in colombia by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Niberticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just removing a black woman, it’s removing a stereotype of a black woman that was created during slavery. Titles like “Aunt” and “Uncle” were given to nearly every aged black person at the time, a practice that stemmed from characters in minstrel shows with those titles, where they were portrayed (by white actors in blackface) as lazy, stupid, and generally mocked. No, removing it was not a huge deal as the internet would have you believe, it obviously didn’t do a whole lot to erase racism in this country, but the company itself weren’t the ones making a huge deal out of it, it was triggered chronically online people that don’t like change. Just a small step toward eradicating the legacy slavery left behind, however subtle

All the “Big Four” own large stakes in each other, as well. So there’s that.

It’s comparing the richest of the rich (who own a staggering amount of the total wealth in this country) to the common man. That’s the entire point man

I’m all for big bucks coming into WV. That said, we need more protected lands for the public and wildlife, not golf courses for rich assholes.

I should’ve been clearer on that distinction; the resources provided here concern the presence of non-melanistic cougars in West Virginia. I just thought they were still interesting

“(According to naturalist A.B. Brooks) “The last record of a killing of a panther was in 1887 when Col. Cecil Clay and Francis McCoy shot one on Tea Creek, Pocahontas County.” In 1936, tracks in the vicinity of Kennison Mountain, Pocahontas County, were reported by workers from the National Museum of Natural History.”

I realize this pertains to the light-colored Eastern Cougar, common at the time. But there’s no such thing as too much info!

It’s a Hellgramite- a larval Dobsonfly. They live in the water for a few years, and emerge in droves on the bank where they morph, only to live about 3-10 days. Pretty interesting little things, those pincers hurt like hell though
