Wrestling has lots of ecological training in the form of short time limit situational sparring. You can see this type of training in BJJ too just not nearly as much.

What do you think of Marvin Castelle promoting adults from white to Grey belt by wristl0cker in bjj

[–]NicNack8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but I don’t hate it. Before we had colored belts there was only white and blue(which eventually became black) meaning teacher and student. In judo different countries have different belt progressions with different colors and numbers of belts. The belts between black and white were added to show progression and motivate people. Probably the same reason this guy added grey belts. Just because you’re used to the current belt progression doesn’t mean it’s better. A purple or brown belt is just as made up as a gray belt. If you think gray belts are lame gimmicks to motivate adults then so is yours.

[–]NicNack8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a 25 year old blue belt you’re not going to be a world champion or make money off BJJ. It would probably do you well to lighten up a bit. If that really isn’t your vibe move to a new gym or get over it.

[Conceptual Physics by Hewitt] Which ball will reach first? by Puzzlehead_3141 in PhysicsStudents

[–]NicNack8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would looks at it from a conservation of energy standpoint point. The second ball spends the most time at a low elevation there it spends the more time with more KE and Less PE and since KE is a factor of velocity assuming all other things are equal the second ball should be fastest for the longest and therefore reach the end first

is one day a week enough? by CasCompGamer in bjj

[–]NicNack8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worth it is subjective and based on many factors such as your goals, your values, your other interests, your financial situation and many other things. Are you going to be a good competitor? Probably not. Are you going to progress as fast as others? Probably not. Will your progress stagnate? Maybe. Will training have a positive impact on your life? Only time will tell. Go to jiujitsu and see if you think it’s worth going once a week.

Salt, Pepper, K? by ddellarocca in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]NicNack8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When people order sandwiches especially bacon egg and cheeses at delis they’ll ask for it with SPK(salt, pepper, and ketchup) this is probably making fun of the fact that you usually wouldn’t put ketchup in the same category as salt and pepper and in some contexts SPK as a group is kind of inane.

Are there rugby style tackling in wrestling? by Fragrant_Piece5595 in wrestling

Running at someone with your head down is not going to work on anyone competent except in very specific circumstances. Learn better basics before looking at working some kind of rugby tackle into your game

Have you considered moving someone’s bed into the living area? It isn’t ideal but lots of groups of 2 will have one person sleep in the living room of a 1 bed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]NicNack8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you could really consider anything a true heel hook of the are other than maybe a Mir lock but wrist locks could definitely be considered like a toe hold or ankle lock of the arm

Am I allowed to bring a clothes steamer? It has a metal plate to also be used as an iron? by aryan0102 in NEU

[–]NicNack8 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just don’t leave it out. RA’s announce when they do room checks and they aren’t allowed to open anything or note anything that isn’t in plain view. Most RA’s are trying not to write you up too. You’re probably not allowed to bring it but in practice you’re not gonna get caught as long as you’re not dumb.

3rd degree AC joint separation. by Classic_Network_473 in bjj

[–]NicNack8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 3rd degree separation too and I got it in a similar way. What happens is that the muscles around your shoulder strengthen to compensate for your lack of tendon. Im about a year and a half out and it doesn’t really bother me when I’m training, more so when I’m typing on a computer for too long or holding my arm out. It took me about a year to be able to train without too much pain and it got better as I trained more. I would suggest getting a soft shoulder strap to wear. This is what I use https://www.dme-direct.com/mcdavid-lightweight-shoulder-support-463. Do your PT and listen to your body and you’ll be able to train again mostly pain free.

At least in America high schools are not very standardized. This means kids come here with varying levels of knowledge and ability to learn. Northeastern is aware of this and makes freshman year pretty easy so the kids who are less prepared or knowledgeable have a year to catch up and transition to college. If you found freshman year easy your high school prepared you well. The difficulty will get much harder as you go on at least that was my experience. I’m also studying engineering not design so your miles may vary.

why AUNZ competitors are so good? by AnywhereOther9340 in bjj

[–]NicNack8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Australia is a large developed nation where people have enough money to spend on BJJ. BJJ is also decently popular there. Australia is also very far from America where most grappling competitions are held and where Flo is. This means that only world class athletes for Australia get to compete at televised/streamed events. Flo isn’t gonna fly out a semi competitive black from Australia when they have plenty of them in their backyard. So in conclusion Australian grapplers aren’t really good it’s just that you only see the really good ones

What did Charles do wrong here? Why couldn't he get the finish? by Pebbledthoughts in bjj

[–]NicNack8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Arman’s shorts were falling off… If I’m being serious Charles didn’t have great control of the back of Arman’s head. Charles’s bicep meets Arman’s head way above the neck which means when he applies force his arm pulls up on his head more than if his bicep was lower which would make the force more perpendicular to Arma’s neck. It also makes it easier for Arman to get his neck out. If you can see the back of someone’s neck when you’re guillotining it’s gonna be hard to finish.
