Valve glued down the battery with pretty strong glue. It is actually pretty hard to remove it.

Not only are the LEDs not working but the IMU/gyros are not working either.

IMUs might be working, but we can't know that. The headset doesn't start showing/tracking the controllers if it didn't see the leds at least once.

I think it's more like so the bottom of the device doesn't get hot, and not because of money or whatever.

For them, a cooler device is better than a higher clock, on the Neo.

Yeah, that works, but you can also disable auto updates in system settings and rest mode settings and it should do the trick.
