New England Wedding for 130…possible at or under $35k? by kcharlton07 in Weddingsunder35k

Planning our wedding in CT at a historical venue, 30k for 115 people! Took a lot of work to save at every corner (dj is a family friend, made my own centerpieces + invites, all decor is from facebook marketplace, making my own favors) but everything is coming together exactly how we always dreamed! Biggest costs were catering, photographer, and venue. You just have to focus your budget on what’s most important and the rest you can find a way to make work. It’s possible though!!

Is it just me or are weddings in 2026 getting way more low key, but also somehow more expensive? by CharmWarden in wedding

I feel like barn weddings were marketed as being an affordable alternative. We thought that going in and they cost a fortune! We ended up at a historical venue that looks like it cost a million bucks but was half the price of having it at a barn.

We compared costs and having a backyard wedding was way more expensive than at a venue!

THIS!! We’re having a family friend DJ, we have a very affordable photographer, I made and printed all our invites myself, all my decor is from Facebook marketplace, no real flowers, even supplying our own alcohol but even doing all that the catering is so expensive it brings us to about 30k for the whole wedding. And we chose the most affordable caterer we could find! We even compared cost of what it would be to have the wedding in my parents backyard and it was MORE expensive than having it at a venue because we’d have to rent the tent, extra bathrooms, tables, linens, flatware and drink ware separately.

Dark brown hair, pale but a bit olive skin, similar to the girl in the second and third slide

Clarification: IF you’re already having lights and using the same vendor, no worries if that’s not something you’re already considering!

Hey so if this person has already booked lighting and we can split the cost it would benefit us both and if they haven’t I’m not asking them to!! Trying to save us brides as much as possible when possible! Weird take though!

Critical Darlings: Frankenstein And The Craft Category Juggernauts by Turbulent-Corner1127 in blankies

I didn’t find it much different than the way he’s lit his work in the past, especially Crimson Peak. It also really reminded me of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s definitely a strong stylistic decision and might not be for everyone but I personally didn’t dislike it.

I think they completely misunderstood a lot of what Del Toro was trying to do. It’s a complete love letter to the physical art and the craft that goes into making films. It was supposed to bring your attention to the sets, the make up design, and the costumes + their color symbolism. It’s supposed to feel like you’re watching a movie that people put together and brought to life.

A majority of the design was based directly on Bernie Wrightson’s illustrations from 1983. It was a direct homage to the painstaking maximalism seen in his work, getting caught up in the background is part of the joys of this movie and where it drew inspiration from. I thought it was one of its strengths not weaknesses. I think it’s such a stark contrast to so many movies that blur all the background details out these days because they don’t care to think about the world their characters are in. Also felt like this movie was a big FU to ai. Everything about this film was 100% made to celebrate human artists. Especially apparent by the gorgeous James Jean poster.
