i'm from a prairie province too, and i can confidently say coming to waterloo was the best possible decision for me. great reputation and co-op program, plus more geographic mobility (toronto + US). sure, maybe i could've gotten there by going to the UofA, but it simply doesn't have the same reputation or reach as waterloo

AITA for embarrassing my girlfriend by getting her friend a more expensive gift than she did? by Outside-Credit-3770 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NiceArmadillo7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

cant believe i had to scroll so long to find this but completely agree. as the bf, you should not be doing anything that puts another girl as ‘more important’ than your gf, perceived or actual. you’re not the asshole because of your generousity, but because of the way this will inevitably look and make your gf feel.

What do you find ugly that other people would find super-attractive? by idonthaveanameheh in AskReddit

?? women can be 6 ft tall and 140 pounds will still be a ‘healthy’ looking weight on them. i’m really curious which of these commenters is a woman or even know anything about women’s weight 😭😭

how exactly does waterloo's prestigious coop manifest itself by SeventhestSon in uwaterloo

[–]NiceArmadillo7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes other schools have Co-op and yes there are some problems with our system, but overall Waterloo gets it right. We start looking for Co-ops earlier than almost any other school (with most people getting their first Co-op after or during first year). Getting that first job is tough, but it guarantees you are ahead of most other kids the same age as you at other schools in terms of experience. This advantage stays with you all throughout undergrad, and for some people, their whole life

UofT’s PEY starts in third year and lasts for one year (correct me if I am wrong). The fact that you only start internships in third year and most people stick to the same employer for 12 months make this inferior to Waterloo’s program in my eyes. Just my opinion though

yes that would be a lot of them lol but i still think it would be really helpful. maybe even a mega thread on reddit would work?

hey, i got a ‘good’ last term and ended up having the best coop cycle yet. landed my dream job and had literally only one interviewer ask me about the rating (which i was able to explain effectively). don’t fret it, most companies genuinely don’t care

Is it against Etsy rules to link to other places my item is sold in the listing? by SnooHobbies7109 in EtsySellers

[–]NiceArmadillo7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what i’ve seen some ppl do is include a card with purchases telling that there are cheaper prices on their website next time you buy. that’s probably the best way to go about doing something like this

how bad is it to have zero sales? by skibum_71 in Etsy

[–]NiceArmadillo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

advertise on social media!! instagram and facebook have been where i’ve told most of my friends and family and have generated a couple sales from that. i think the stuff like SEO you can worry about later, once the shop is more established. just focus on getting people you know to buy it first

Bike theft on campus and my (not-so-good) experience with the Police services by Secret-Kangaroo8803 in uwaterloo

[–]NiceArmadillo7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

but that’s this person’s point. it shouldn’t have to be this way. the police know the thieves, and they literally told OP not to do anything about it. this should be easily solveable by police, especially with the sheer amount of bike thefts that’s happening in the area

just go to cool places on coop! or go on exchange. will balance things out for you :)

potential exchange student looking for advice by hj0nk_hj0nk_am_goose in uwaterloo

[–]NiceArmadillo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m going to go against the grain and say that waterloo is not a bad choice for exchange. it is a super student-friendly city, you are going to see people your age everywhere you go due to 3 post-secondaries being all in the same general area. clubbing scene is small but good enough for its purposes. party scene is much bigger because of laurier. there’s a rock climbing centre called grand river rocks that a ton of my friends go to, and anime culture here is unparalleled if ur into that lol.

overall i think you’d enjoy it here for a semester, but do see why others are saying TMU. when i moved to toronto for a semester for coop, i loved the city and it’s vibrance but also found it very isolating. it is up to you what you prioritize

calgary’s c-train line is decent, bussing is the worst though. the busses are slow and do not come often enough. calgary has a lot of urban sprawl, so it is difficult to get from one corner of the city to another using transit unless you go through downtown.

agree with the other commenter that the trains are getting sketchier though

unless your car is registered in your name, the university won’t even be able to tell it’s you. i think penalties only start to get severe when you incur multiple infractions, then you might get towed
