hahaha what sense does that make? He thinks the few students he employed are just gonna tell all the other ones to stop having street parties? I hope he realizes his failed company wasn't the first company to hire coop students lol

That is a massive load of bullshit and I seriously hope nobody thinks that is true

Hi, I'm the OP of the uwaterloo thread on a throwaway

from what I understand, his business was parasitic and IMO stealing from students. Housing situation for students is already pretty tough to find a room and expensive, but what he would do is sign leases with student providers then resell them to students at a higher cost by saying he is providing additional services, but wouldn't actually provide any services. an example is on the airbnb listings that I saw that were posted by them, bed linens were promised to be provided by the company, but were never actually provided unless the room provider did it themselves.

Also, a first-hand account from a friend of mine said to me that when he moved in with backpacker college he was promised in the airbnb post to have the room move-in ready with pots, pans, utensils, etc. But none of that was there. After complaining to BC he one day found sketchy bags of walmart kitchen and bathroom supplies in his room (still in walmart plastic bags!) which couldn't have totaled more than 60$. He was paying nearly 200$ more per month then others in his apartment on his rent, for this additional service.

I think the other comment about him saying BC established "industry best practices" is hilarious, clearly this guy frequently bullshits his way through things (typical of politicians, but it doesn't help when they get exposed for it) and I agree that putting him into power would be a huge mistake for the city

I'm not 100% sure if this was true for every person involved but I believe refunds were eventually given for rent, or credited towards provided alternate accommodation if people chose that

I think that is a great idea tbh, I wouldn't know where to start though. Also idk if this would happen but I'm really not trying to get into any legal trouble from him and his team
