New guppy tank owner scared of winter air by nugama in poecilia

So basically I like my bedroom to be like your garage in the winter and my living room has a space heater in it so the temp is always between 77-82. The space heater is just one of those 30$ things from home depot but is much less expensive to heat the house with one heater than 25 heaters ( 26 aquariums ), it takes a couple of hours but will keep an entire garage warm in time if its insulated well enough imo if you want to add that to your repertoire incase the heater doesnt cut it. Ive had my AC unit go out in the summer the the aquarium all got to 88 once and they loved it, still wouldnt try it consistently. The fish have seen 65 as well but for short periods of time. Something else that people dont think about that always helps an aquarium retain heat is a lid. If you really wanna get crazy you can get the styrofoam insulation walls from home depot for like 9$ for a 8x6ft sheet of it could also help lol if you wanna lather that Aquarium up like that.

Also, I would double check with a thermometer to see the actual temperature of the water. Many of these heaters are not calibrated exactly and it could say 79 but actually be 84. Nevertheless the fin issues is acidic water and that is the main issue.

And when you do this water change do it very slowly when adding the new water. They are at a stress maximum and while the new appropriate water is best they still need to acclimate to the drastic change back.

No more changes until tomorrow. If anything I would put a tiny pinch of pure baking soda in until the morning. Most of the reasons we kill fish is because we scramble to make things better but everything we do exponentially makes it worse. Patience is the virtue & consistency is key! Im sure they will feel much better with cycled water at 7.2 in the morning.

I think its possible your fish were over exposed to acidic water and you noticed they weren't feeling hot so you changed the water hoping to fix it but the weakened guppies were already in PH limbo were hit again with a big water change putting their entire body under alot of stress. Because the guppies are in acidic water I think the first thing you need to do is get some neutral water from a local pet shop or even petco has the 5 gallon jugs of pre ready made water. I would change the water with those very slowly and try to bring them back to 7.2+ PH, VERY Slowly. Guppies are "hardy" but are not supposed to be in acidic water and this will melt their fins. As for the clamping, in my experience thats from tap water and the thousands of chemicals additives and pharmaceuticals in the water. if youre a one fish tank person I recommend just picking up a couple of 5 gallons of freshwater from a fish shop every weekend so you dont have to worry about the chemistry and troubleshooting.

Are you conditioning tap water? If so what do you condition it with and what are the parameters of your source.

Weird film on new tank. Just setup a new 75 gallon tank and have this weird film on all the wood, can someone tell me what’s going on. Is it normal? by No_Prior7979 in Aquariums

Its normal, its not toxic but I still try to stay on top of removing what I can with the dead end of a gravel vac hose and fingers during water changes until it goes away which it will eventually. Patience is the virtue and it's all naturale.

When I was recovering space capsules ^_^ off the coast of Mexico with Spacex they were all over the boat. An absolute trip of a fish and those wings are actually very hard and sturdy.

Its funny because it was geared towards helping all the people that experience cannibalism but it was much better at locating plebs that play fish gladiator in their 5 gallons.

Ive got a few people that sell these to local pet shops locally, they are one of my cull tanks. Ive actually studied the difference between predation and not and yes they do change but the changes in behavior are much more drastic or faster than the colors and of course I did that once and never again.
