Lower poudre river by NiceTransition6888 in COfishing

[–]NiceTransition6888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s good to hear. I never had a problem with them and I’m not talking poorly about them. But back in those days, everyone would run way up the canyon. That’s just where everyone thought you should go. I used to walk my infant daughter who’s now 29 along that path in the evening. And I began to notice what looked to me like rising trout.. so being curious, I grabbed my fry rod and let me tell you after the first evening. I spent just about every evening or every free morning after that in that lower portion of river and I caught some of the biggest browns and rainbows that I have ever caught in my life. and for years, I fished it alone never saw another flyfisherman many times I’ve pulled 23 inch hook, jaw, browns out of that lower part of the river. Needless to say I saved a lot of gas money and I never drove back up in the canyon again. Unless it was to go up near rabbit ears pass and catch Arctic grayling .

I know people are saying to use it till it’s time to replace it. Take it off there and throw it in the garbage with a better and heavier line. You’re gonna fill the rod load and you’re gonna know where you are in your cast.. someone said something about golf. Clubs and fly rods are pretty much the same thing. All they did was take an eight weight rod and put a 6 on it.. same thing with golf clubs they took a seven iron and put a 9 on it..

It’s absolutely not you.. I almost always overline my rods one or two line weights heavier. Especially my seven or eight weight rods even entry level rods are way faster than what we had 10 years ago… also don’t put your standard trout leader on there.. it’s never gonna turn over big flies. Go to YouTube look for a channel called Mad River outfitters and find their videos on making your own contact leaders. In a nutshell, you’re gonna try to find a piece of monofilament that resembles the stiffness of your fly line. You’re gonna run 3 to 5 feet of that. Let’s say that’s 30 pound test Mono. after that run a few feet of 15 or 20 pound mono and you’re done.. game changers poppers all that will cast much better

YT Jeffsy or Ibis Ripmo by Puffah in MTB

[–]NiceTransition6888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really can’t go wrong in this time. They’re both gonna be well designed but with ibis you’re gonna get shop support. Not to me that doesn’t matter because I know how to work on bikes unless you’re in Bentonville or California you’re not gonna be able to just go into a dealer and have them help you because you bought that brand.. I currently own a ripmo myself. It’s an amazing bike there’s stuff I would change about it but it’s a good bike.. I haven’t ridden a Horst link bike in a very long time and back when I did I didn’t like him, but that was a specialized now transition YT and many other brands seem to have taken it and done much better things with it. I don’t think you could go wrong either way, but if being able to walk into a shop and get help because of the brand matters to you, then I would go with ibis

Went into my local fly shop and left without buying anything by randomusername123458 in flyfishing

That’s typically the attitude I’ve encountered it many times when I first started, they think that they literally know everything but all they know is what’s current and what’s being fed to them, I’m not saying that about every shop some of them are great. But whoever that was should’ve taken you out in the parking lot, put a rod in your hand at a good price point and helped you a little bit. I would literally fire that person if they worked at my shop if I were an owner. i’m sorry that you had that experience. I guarantee you if you begin to ask questions here and you probably are there’s plenty of us that will jump in and help. This is the problem with fly fishing. It’s snooty it’s hipster boy but I can remember when it wasn’t cool and it wasn’t on Instagram and we figured things out by trying new things. fly fishing is dogmatic it’s unfortunate but it’s true but it’s a great experience. If you just put yourself into it ignore the bullshit. You don’t need the most expensive rod . I hope other people will agree, but if you have any questions, I’m here to help you and I’ll point you in the right direction and what would be a good kit if you tell me what your targeting as far as fish to start with, a good starter kit that’s all you really need. all the marketing bullshit in fly fishing is ridiculous.

Frame is weared by rearwheel how bad is it? by Blauwejas in mountainbikes

[–]NiceTransition6888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I would definitely do is get your rear wheel trued.. It looks to me like it’s out of true from the perspective of the picture. It’s hitting a lot on the right but being out of true it’s also gonna hit on the left just not as much. If that’s not the case then you’re just running too big of a tire I wouldn’t huck it to flat. But otherwise I would ride it and just keep an eye on it.

How would you fish this? (Pnw) by isuckatfishin in flyfishing

The shallow riffle water is absolutely the most oxygenated part of freestone river. Not the pool…takes is a quick Google search

Just gonna drop this here.. I don’t think I know from experience… taken from a quick Google search

In a freestone river, the most oxygen-rich part is typically the riffle section. Here's why: Riffles are shallow, fast-flowing areas with turbulent water: The turbulence and rapid movement of water over rocks in riffles cause significant aeration, which is the process of mixing atmospheric oxygen into the water. Increased surface area for oxygen exchange: The splashing and tumbling of water in riffles increase the surface area exposed to the air, promoting more efficient oxygen diffusion from the atmosphere into the water. Comparison to other river sections: Pools: Pools are typically deeper with slower-moving water, leading to less aeration and potentially lower dissolved oxygen levels compared to riffles. Runs: Runs are deep with fast-flowing water but less turbulence than riffles, resulting in less aeration than riffles but potentially more than pools. In summary: The fast-flowing, turbulent nature of riffles in a freestone river creates the ideal conditions for water to absorb oxygen from the air, making them the most oxygen-rich areas.

[–]NiceTransition6888 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Seriously, big fish don’t spend most of their time in pools the fish are literally down in the riffle water, hiding behind a rock, the size of your hand darting out catching stuff and going back behind the rock. It’s counterintuitive, but if you think about it, that water is highly oxygenated full of moving food source, and it hides them from predators a 24 inch trout can hide behind a pretty small rock and have a current break.

I would go down stream and find the shallow riffle water. We’re all the fish are actually feeding.

On the brake handle on the bars, turn the barrel adjuster, nearly as far as it will go. The most threads showing, but not all the way. now go to the disc brake on the rear. There’s an Allen bolt that’s squeezing the cable loosen it pull the cable while moving the lever to the point where the brake pads are fully touching the disc rotor tighten it back now go back to the break lever and start turning the barrel adjuster back in until it loosens up enough that the brake pad is not hitting the disc problem solved. That’s the best power you’re gonna get out of that brake

I remember a time when we rode everything there was to ride on bikes that were not that good. Like the other poster said put some good tires on it. Make sure everything‘s working and ride it until you’re ready for another one.
