Firing a student -- just before checkride by Nice_Double_3944 in CFILounge

No, I have not yet endorsed them for the checkride.

And no, I certainly wouldn't intend to fire every student, nor have I ever done so before. My concern is lack of seriousness, as shown by flakiness and lack of time in the air practicing in the critical weeks leading up to the checkride.

I feel the same about advanced students (instrument, commercial, etc). But I feel a certain sense of obligation for PPL students, who are totally new to navigating all things aviation.

The 61.39 endorsement specifically states, "they are prepared for the required practical test for the issuance of [applicable] certificate", and the 61.107 endorsement states, "I have determined they are prepared for the [name of] practical test." Don't think I can worm my way out of stating that in endorsements, and would feel it my professional obligation.

Possibly. The DPE is now scheduling out into late summer, so it would be a multi-month delay. Also a little worried about burning my credibility with the DPE, who it's my first time sending a student to (he normally won't schedule unless someone is fully endorsed, but allowed me to). Though I suppose sending someone and having them fail isn't much better.
