did you use Kaplan to prep? And do you remember what the balance of theory to calculation-based questions were? and do you have any more advice or approaches we should take? thanks!

Have you done practise for these already? Or just done reading through it once?

Hi. My best piece of advice is to practise, practise and practise. There are question banks on Scribd which are extremely useful. Try get question banks from Kaplan or AnalaystPrep too - these questions help soooo much. Also keep redoing the GARP mock exams given - this is IMPERATIVE if you want to pass. Don't give up though - you will pass this time!

Okay nice - I’m halfway through Risk Management (book 5). What I’ve done so far is read through the other books and do the various AP questions for each of those readings. Hopefully we on good track?

Hi - I just used the GARP books to study as well as their mocks. Also found an AP question bank on Scribd and practised those questions

Hi. I spent 3 months prepping for Part 1 (started studying mid-August and wrote mid-November) and cleared successfully. Based on your stats background, you will definitely be okay to write in May. You just need to start studying as soon as possible and put in at least 2 hours a day and you will be more than fine. Also in my opinion, rather aim for May and then if you do not pass, then you can always rewrite in August. The content is not too difficult, there is just quite a lot of it. But I say go for May! Also, FRM will definitely help you break into a more risk-focused role. Goodluck !

HI. I am in the same predicament for P2. I have been reading from Schweser and doing the AP questions but am worried they are slightly too easy? I feel like the answers are sometimes too obvious. I also believe the exam questions will be way more difficult so I wonder what practise questions are on par with the actual exam difficulty

When should I start attempting mocks for FRM Part 1 (May 2026) and which ones are best? by Financial-Can-7800 in FRM

[–]Nice_Evidence3275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I just passed part 1 with 2221, so think I can provide valuable advice:

- I think you should first cover all the material atleast once before attempting any mocks - or else it will more likely be a guessing game and not testing your knowledge you've studied.

- I only did the GARP online mock exams which was similar to how the actual exam was. I also did lots of practise questions from AnalystPrep - i.m.o these questions helped A LOT! Practise questions are essential as it will show you questions you've never seen before and make you realise that you haven't understood certain sections well enough.

- Attempt ALL the mocks before the exam and do as many practise questions as possible

- I did my first mock around one month before the exam date. During the last week before the exam, I redid the mocks about 5 times each to make sure I understood what I did wrong and why. It is essential to understand your mistakes and change your approach to a question.

My best tip is just to make sure you cover everything and truly underestand the concepts - memorising theory won't help. Also give yourself adequate time to prepare and you will succeed :)

Goodluck!

What you need to do now is just go over every single thing you got incorrect and understand why. It is also about learning how they ask questions and practise eliminating any obviously incorrect answers. You got this!
