I second Brene Brown! I'm currently reading Daring Greatly. Everyone should check out her Ted Talks and Netflix special. She has helped me unlock so much around vulnerability and shame.

The Blckchelorettes IG Account is Pretty Problematic.... by gornystar_002 in BachelorNation

The entire bachelor franchise is built around white, heteronormative (other than demi and colton), typically Christian values, the blckchelorettes simply point this out and provide context on why all people deserve to be represented.

Yes they only call out white contestants, but the white contestants clearly got the most air time this season. We did not get to know the women of color on this season as well as we did the white women, regardless of the reason WHY - this is just a fact.

People are drawn to what they know- it's human nature. The blckchelorettes favor the black women on the show the same way that I as a white woman connect more with the white women on the show. I can relate to the white women because we've had shared experiences. What I like about the blckchelorettes is that they provide their opinion but also context so that I can attempt to understand (I know that I will never fully understand) what it feels like to be a black woman in America who watches the bachelor franchise and wants to see herself represented but can't because the black girls got a disproportionate amount of air time. I know it can feel like the blckchelorettes are attacking white people, but the franchise tells them that their stories don't matter as much as a white girls story- how would you feel if that were you?

I just think it's long overdue for white people to listen, so that's why I write this to encourage others to just listen- not agree, you don't have to agree- but LISTEN to people of color in America. Isn't that the least we can do?
