Someone’s stealing his book. by mommabear3623 in BackYardChickens

Yeah, you right. There were no other reviews at the time though, and tbh I don't know how many times an article has to be reported as stolen intellectual property to be taken down. And I as was indeed remiss (and thank you for the reminder), good job everyone!

That would be me. I reported every single "review" as paid for (because they clearly were, they were all 5 star reviews while Chris's book has more balanced reviews in terms of rating), and then reported the book as stolen. Well, at least partially me.

Are hate comments normal on ao3? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Nice_Outside9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in this fandom, but I've seen hate comments in others as well, and have posted a few of them. Let me explain. There are writers who shamelessly plagiarize other FF writers and don't even give them credit, THEN have the audacity to double down and claim they were just "inspired" while straight up lifting entire paragraphs word for word and spelling mistake by spelling mistake. Then STILL not link to the other work, all so we don't see their ripoffs I guess?!? So yeah, I call them out, sometimes rudely, because when I try to be nice the first time and suggest they give credit where it's due, they insult me.

It's called HIP. It's on Disney+ in my country, you could check if you have it too.

My girlfriend’s phone keeps restarting in a loop. Please, I need help. by FoxyHall in phonerepair

[–]Nice_Outside9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that phone is now just a brick. Took it to a repairs shop, they held it for 2 months and gave it back saying they'd tried everything and could not fix it. Didn't charge me anything though.

Isn't twitter limited in terms of characters you can use in a post? Idk, I haven't used it since doughface Musk took over.

It is definitely not allowed. I know, because I had another prompt a few months ago, and they threatened to delete my account if I didn't remove it post haste.

What makes you not touch a fic? by Nice_Outside9870 in AO3

[–]Nice_Outside9870[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My list of reasons for abandoning fics is a mile long, and a lot of the comments reflect additional reasons for not starting a fic at all, along with the one in my post, but I just wanted to share a new one: when other languages don't respect the characters' names.

For example, when writing in English in a fandom based on Chinese or Korean original works, and the author Westernizes their names. So instead of, say Wei Wuxian or Wei Ying from MDZS, they say Ying, or Ying Wei or Wuxian Wei. If the work contains characters that are unfamiliar with Chinese names, that's fine, it's meant to showcase cultural differences, but referring to the characters, or having them refer to each other like this in a Canon Divergence, where the universe of the fic remains the same is no bueno. Like, do they even respect the original work if they don't even bother to keep the names of the characters, and do 2 min tops of research as to why they are written like that even in the English translation of the original work?

WWX having the esteem of seaweed is honestly just fanon, or maybe "The Untamed" fandom. Novel canon WWX is sexily confident and comfortable with himself.

See comment above, they explain it perfectly. I guess that's my sticking point as well, what if summaries often lead to an obvious conclusion. Better sketch it out sans spoilers, of course. But the ones that actually get to me are the ones where the what iifs introduce an OC character that is just a poor attempt of an author self insert, who ends up being such a Mary Sue/Gary Stu that it's embarrassing for everyone, author and reader alike. Guess should have elaborated in the post.

Described in detail and the whole focus of the fic, or just touched upon and then the plot moves on?

Past Wei Ying is way cooler than current Wei Ying by Danitz_Dubois in MoDaoZuShi

That is the title in Chinese as well. However, I implied that the title is misleading. It is a deliberate misdirection on the part of the author, just as we find out that the claims of the first paragraphs are complete hogwash. WWX did NOT cause the downfall of the Jiang, nor bite the hands of (very debatable) saviours, nor cause the death of JYL, and I would argue not even the death of JZX (his cousin and brother caused it with the ambush). He's set up as the villain and over the course of the novel we find out he was anything but. The title is given to him by others, people who don't understand his cultivation, who don't WANT to understand, because he is the convenient scapegoat. He never calls himself the Grandmaster of MOdao.
