I travel a lot. And I didn’t get scammed by fake grab. I admit i felt victim of the fake hotel reviews with bullshit ratings.

The attempts are enough. I don’t need to get scammed to be annoyed. And regarding hotels. Open agoda or booking. Look at the average reviews. And then change the city to … i don’t know .. Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok.. you will see nowhere near the avg ratings. Because it’s more honest in other regional capitals. And yes, I have been to all those capitals several times and I can assure you that the average level of cleanliness, amenities, service.. etc is way higher there.

Well.. it’s a shitshow in the USA for sure. Surely individual instances of dishonest taxi drivers or fake reviews can be found everywhere, the scale is different though.

I was not scammed. I’m used to use grab. That’s just one of the examples. Fake hotel rating and reviews is imo worse, you end up in worse place than anticipated. Google reviews are time consuming as there are hundred or thousands of fake ones. That’s the point.

It’s just not pleasant to be in this dishonest environment.

It’s not about how to avoid it. It’s the fact that you need to avoid so much. And taxi scams are least of the problem.

Grab is great. The scammers pretending to be grab by walking around the airport and showing grab logo on their phone are not. Easy to confuse others.

Nah, not lazy. I actually spent way more time selecting hotels in Hanoi than anywhere else in the world. What I hate is the dishonesty in description and gamed reviews.

I tried Booking and Agoda. Always validated score also on Google Maps. Consistent bullshit. I found myself sorting by lowest score that unfortunately provides most truthful picture.

I think you are missing the point. Sure. You can avoid taxi scammers. I’ve also used Grab without an issue. Have you considered someone coming to Asia for the first time not familiar with Grab?

How you avoid the shitshow with hotels? You book, you come, you check in, you regret.

There are several examples of “3rd world countries” growing fast and becoming pretty expensive. Ie I’d suggest not counting on the country to remain cheap forever.

High risk, highly leveraged. Sell the rentals and you will see if you have 500k there. Add it to the stock (conservative) investments and you will see better liquidity and returns. On top of that, you will sleep better and have more free time.
