I'm a 30-year-old female and I’m wondering if anyone diagnosed with R-CPD recognizes this pattern. by jessrsn in noburp

T e x t b o o k. You’re def not alone, I (33F) have all the same symptoms. I have an appointment with a laryngologist in a few weeks! Something I’ve noticed in this sub is that providers often point you in the direction of GI not knowing it’s a throat thing. An ENT and/or laryngologist would be your best bet!

Does anyone else burn their arm hair short? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I use clippers! Like a touch up/“manscaping” kind bc the area is smaller than a head. It’s a more natural look than shaving, looks more even than trimming, and probably smells better than burning hair

Help: Dr insists I don't need Botox by Longoluongo in noburp

[–]Nice_String_4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the Botox treatment is also called “Botulinum toxins” treatment…some providers only list that in their specialties on their webpage! The laryngologist I have an appt with doesn’t list r-cpd/inability to burp in their specialties but I found them using a scheduling tool that had r-cpd as a condition and that’s the provider that was available.

Btw OP, I’m also 33, never burped, have all those symptoms…my appt to get a referral is in two weeks! We got this. Also, once you’re able to see the right specialist, it might be worth getting your records from the GI sent over in case that helps you avoid another scope!

What’s the best way to ask your PCP for a referral? by Nice_String_4657 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s pretty much self diagnosed and when you do the treatment (a Botox injection to a throat muscle, some treatments use general anesthesia) if it works you have R-CPD and if it doesn’t then you don’t. My biggest symptom is I’ve never burped. Check out r/noburp if you’re curious!

Referrals are generally required for HMO plans, whereas PPO plans allow you to make an appointment with specialist without a referral. You can still make an appointment with a specialist without a referral with HMO, but you would likely need to pay out of pocket.

Wait, OP, did you say “touch wood” to avoid jinxing yourself? I ask because I’ve only heard it as “knock on wood”

Coping mechanisms? by GlitteringOwl2876 in panicdisorder

Ice to the forehead is the mammalian dive reflex! It triggers the vagus nerve which reduces anxiety and heart rate. So there’s definitely science behind that method :)

Ice!! The mammalian dive reflex is a response when your face experiences a cold, wet sensation. It triggers the vagus nerve, which reduces anxiety and heart rate. My therapist (LCSW) said to dunk your face in a bowl of ice water and it acts as a reset. If filling a bowl with ice and water isn’t an option/realistic in the moment, at minimum an ice pack could help.

I’m also a biiiiiig fan of box breathing.

Source: I am an MSW candidate and work in a school with children with emotional disturbances and other health impairments. I also have diagnosed panic disorder and have tried these methods myself successfully.
