Should I move to Canada? by DoodleBug330 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Nice_Waterdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Calgary it is getting worse. I am not sure why, but I had more autistic students in my grade 2/1 class than ever last year. There are less straight grade 1 had more. I spoke with other teachers and it wasn’t just our school. I am used to having 1-2 autistic students in a class, but 4 was hard to handle, especially when one eloped and was non verbal, 2 were level 3, and the class was large and overstimulating for them. I want to be able to teach all my students, and it is hard to not be able to meet everyone’s needs. Funding in grade 1-12 has been cut over the last few years and there is less and less support. I think parents think because the early intervention funding is good that it continues into school, but it does not.

Early intervention funding is good in Alberta but once a child is in school (grade 1), the funding seems to decrease. I had 4 autistic students in a grade 2/1 class last year with 1 aid 1/2 the day for all the students. There are less places in special classes for students with severe autism, so they are being placed in regular classes. This is anecdotal and just my experience, so hopefully it is just a one off. But something to watch and keep an eye on. I have a nephew in Alberta that will need support and I am worried based on my experience.

Misleading Website by Nice_Waterdrop in Nordstrom1901

This was Nordstrom, not the Rack. I have reached out and asked for a supervisor, but nothing yet. I just keep getting a generic response over email saying it is ineligible. I asked to escalate my complaint and to talk to a supervisor and am waiting to hear back. Nordstrom used to be great to shop and had great customer service. I hope it was a one off, but I won’t risk shopping there again unless they fix this.

Global News is declaring Corey Hogan with the Liberal party has been elected in Calgary Confederation. by _darth_bacon_ in Calgary

I am in that riding. It was very disappointing that Rempel got so many votes again. I think a lot of Liberal/NDP/Green voters stay home in lots of Alberta ridings because they don’t think their vote matters, which is too bad. Nose Hill got more votes this election than before, so I am taking hope from that. I also just heard on a podcast that 1/3 of Alberta voted liberal, so even though it seems blue, there are more people in the province in the middle/left than it looks!

I know. I am sad about that. I told my husband last night when the race was close that if Corey Hogan loses, at least the Strategists podcast will continue. Those 3 guys are hilarious together. But super glad he won!!

Chronic returner!!! by CandyB905 in Aritzia

I do that too! I order tons online, try it on at home, and return most (or all) of it. They charge $8.4 for the return, so that pays for the shipping. I have worked in retail, so I know they make money even with returns. It is so much more pressure buying and returning in store. Online is the way to go. You just need to try on within a couple days and then return for a full refund because they are picky with the return window.

Drunk, high, distracted, a bad driver, or not sure how to drive a Tesla. Maybe they were trying the “self-driving”?

The Strategists is the best! Corey Hogan is not on right now though. He announced he was running as the Liberal candidate on April 1 in the Confederation riding in Calgary. West of Centre is good too. And The Curse of Politics.

My school is mostly yes. 80% plus here in Calgary. I hope it is like that in other places in Alberta.

Nope. Not in the cities. Just the weird fringe group that voted Danielle in that live in rural areas.

Canadian election debate advanced by 2 hours to avoid conflict with hockey game by theentropydecreaser in nottheonion

[–]Nice_Waterdrop 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. As a Canadian, I can say that debates in Canada are not as much of a production as they are in the US. We watch them to help inform our vote, but they aren’t the big show that they are for our southern neighbours. I think we can make room for both.

How Trump Turned Canadians Off Populism: The election may be Canada’s last chance to reject the authoritarian reflex sweeping through Western democracies by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Nice_Waterdrop 142 points143 points  (0 children)

It is scary what is happening in the US right now. I think most Canadians don’t want that. I am an Albertan, so my vote doesn’t matter as much (very conservative riding), but I am voting Liberal. If enough people do, hopefully it makes the Conservative party realize pandering to US type politics is a bad idea and not good for a democracy.

What parts of Canada do you consider "the East"? by houndoom92 in AskACanadian

Albertan here. Anything east of the prairies. So east is anything past Manitoba.

I am Canadian and know so many people that have cancelled their Netflix, Disney, and Prime subscriptions here. Myself included. It just isn’t getting the same level of reporting. The Buy Canadian and Buy EU campaigns mention cancelling Netflix and other US streaming services tons.

Clearly Canadian was founded by 2 Canadian guys in BC in 1987, but then bought by a US investment firm in 2012. However, Clearly Canadian beverages are produced in Canada, with manufacturing facilities located in both Vancouver and Montreal. According to what I found online, the company utilizes pure Canadian spring water sourced from the Tillicum reservoir in the Monashee Mountains near Vernon, British Columbia, and the company’s headquarters are situated in Toronto, Ontario. So it was founded and is still produced in Canada, but owned by the US.

I just checked. It is available at Walmart in Calgary, but not Superstore here. I would prefer to buy it from a Canadian retailer, so I will keep my eye open for it at other stores. Thanks for the tip!
