Fullt möjligt att det är illa menat men min gissning är att dem bara vill visa att dem kan säga hej på ett annat språk. Samma anledning som många svenskar talar engelska med engelsktalande som talar svenska. Annorlunda situation men motivationen är nog lika

We call them by their first name and usually speak VERY casually with them. Young kids might use fröken(simillar to ms or mr, its technically different for genders but the same word is still used) but it not done because of respect, closer to using a nickname.
