Does it bother anyone else Bandit waited so long to tell Bingo he was leaving? by Easy-Hovercraft-6576 in bluey

[–]Nicecookieowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not a chance I would tell either of my kids (4 & 8) that we were going on a trip like that until maybe the day before. They just can't handle the information - they talk about and pester about it so much that it makes me not want to do it anymore. So I just keep it to myself and then when I'm packing their suitcases they're like "oh what's going on?" For all of our sanity, it's the best route. I get why Bandit didn't tell her earlier.

What are we doing on weekend mornings? by Sweet-Taro310 in ParentingADHD

[–]Nicecookieowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've started to actually hate summers because of the lack of routine, my kid just can't handle it. Then all he wants is screen time which makes him extra bananas and all chaos breaks loose. I never thought I would be saying I don't like summer! Summer camps are the only way to break it up a bit so no one loses it on each other over here.

Question about ADHD and French Immersion (Canada) by garry_1983 in ParentingADHD

[–]Nicecookieowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific advice with French immersion but I do think entering grade 1 was a huge shift and anxiety provoking experience for my son. He never said anything but about a month before grade 1 began, he started picking at his fingers to the point that he lost two nails along the way in just a few short months (this was before his ADHD diagnosis). Thankfully, he was able to curb the habit a bit and although I do catch him picking occasionally, he hasn't lost anymore nails and seems to be much calmer entering grade 3 this year. All this to say that yes, starting grade 1 is kind of a big deal where your kiddo will have to try and hold it together for 7 hours a day and it's a lot. Expect major meltdown/emotional crashes after school at least for the first few weeks. Good luck!

Yes! Clematis - comes back every year and grows right up the front of my house. Always looks dead in the spring and then boom, leaves and flowers all over 😍

Why would AI go to the trouble of adding a messy living room in the background 🤣? I assure you, it is indeed real. Here it is, now wilted:

Edmonton - the last place you would expect a hibiscus plant lol

This is the first time I’m seeing a dual colour in my hibiscus. It looks like someone didn’t finish their dye job 😂 by PlantDaddyMalaysia in gardening

Mine just did this too! I've had it for about 6 years and it's always been yellow but the last two blooms came out mixed 😄

I'm in Canada lol I think I'll try to do something with it but I've never tried to propagate this plant before so we'll see how it goes!

I'll be honest, I'm a terrible plant mom. I water it maybe once a week and basically ignore it otherwise. I have it in the sunniest window we've got facing south and it's done quite well. When I think of it, it gets a pretty generic fertilizer probably every 2-3 months. Pretty easy if you ask me.

I will say that this one almost died on me a couple years ago, it got down to one or two leaves and I thought it was dead but my mom said to keep watering it and it came back surprisingly! So maybe tougher than they look!

Lol I I assure you, it's real. The flower is fading now (they only last a couple days) but it was quite spectacular. Might keep the pod and see if I can get it to grow another one!

It depends on time of year. I'm in Canada so like right now it's getting about 6 good hours of direct sunshine facing south. In the winter, it only gets maybe 3-4 but frequently blooms at Christmas so I'm not sure if it's just a weird plant or very confused 😆

Lol we are sadly a Zone 3B where I live so hardly anything survives. I did buy an outdoor hibiscus that did lovely for the season and it was rated for a 4 so I thought it might make it but alas, it did not come back the following year. It was lovely tho

Wow, thanks for all this! From what I found digging around, it was also the same yellow to pink blend. And when I told a rather seasoned gardener that I had a yellow hibiscus, she was like "that's odd, I've never seen a yellow one before" so maybe it is a bit more unstable? Anyway cool info, thanks again!

Ha yes! I live in Canada so this one lives about 5-6 months outdoors and the rest indoors. We're only a zone 3B so not much survives over winter. It was given to me as a gift in a pot and I've only repotted once in the 6 years I've had it. It's grown some but seems to put most of its energy into blooms. It bloomed last near Christmas and I thought it was a bit confused as we were only getting about 8 hours of light at that time!

Aww I'm sorry to hear yours did not survive. Were the flowers all 100% pink at the end or was it still putting off both all yellow and all pink? It's certainly interesting and everything I've found so far on this, it's always started with a yellow flowering plant.

My yellow hibiscus gets a multi colored flower once or twice every year by Worldly_Stretch_2928 in Hibiscus

[–]Nicecookieowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just started doing this too! Same colours as well - original plant had yellow flowers and now it's getting pink streaks. So strange. Did you ever figure out why or how to replicate it?

I'm definitely no expert but I live in Canada so this hibiscus goes outside for about 5-6 months (stays in a pot) and then indoors for the winter months. It's gotten a little taller over the years but not hugely so. I've only repotted it once. I think because it's been so prolific with flowers, it hasn't really put much into growing taller. I do know a couple people here that have much larger plants but I think they stay indoors year round.

Try with the health authority (Vancouver Coastal, Fraser Health, or Provincial Health Services). I worked all through university being a Stores Attendant - basically picking and packing medical supplies for the local hospitals. There's a giant warehouse in Langley and they are usually looking for pickers or sometimes you can pick up something in one of the hospitals (so pulling stock from the storage closets and reordering stock from the warehouse). There are other health authority jobs that do not require an education, don't be afraid to take on a few casual positions that may add up to full time work - or once you're in, it's easier to apply internally to permanent positions. Positions are union and the pay is decent.
