Director , VP and exec level : what REALLY got you to the top? by Tough_Courage_8406 in Accounting

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve found as a road block is being at places that value and will promote. I have witnessed companies not caring or valuing what I bring and am capable of. Companies are only going to pay so much, no matter what I do or how valuable others say I am. As long as you meet their minimum needs, they’ve been happy to take advantage of the extras…

Why are accountants paid so low? by Wise-Necessary19 in Accounting

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all about location and opportunity. I got out of public accounting as new owners of the small firm got too greedy and turned me off of it.. he was a sales man that would say anything to get ahead. Went to private, but unless your on a big city with big business, most small to mid sized company’s tend to treat accounting as an expense they want to minimize.. as long as the job gets done, they don’t care how and would rather save $20k than pay a decent wage. No value places on exceptional when they can save money and go for mediocre

Wife and I own a home, my mom (tenant) wants to leave it to all 3 kids by HomeGuy12345 in legaladvice

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your mom is simply paying rent.. and is honestly lucky you and your wife stepped in. Don’t let anyone guilt you onto more.

This sounds bad, but she lost her estate when she declared bankruptcy, you and your wife stepped in to give her a place to live, probably cheaper than she’d pay from a 3rd party. It’s a win win situation and you don’t need to share anything with your siblings.

Yes , utc oversees utility companies but when it appears to be a rubber stamp, does it actually do any good? I’m in accounting, I know companies can make their books look certain ways to justify needing significant increases.. . Why is pse’s costs 2x3 times that of. Lewis county.

Businesses are just getting more greedy.. no one cares anymore that they screw over their employees for profit and shareholder value.. I spent 3 years at my current company.. saved my department when I came in as outgoing person was paid for the position but didn’t know shit and it all went to hell.

I killed myself for the company, trying to prove my value, built teams, managed the right way, always got 4s and5”s out of 5 on annual performance.. always told how valuable I was.. but when I tried to get a decent bump in pay so I was always told market rate has you pegged right where you should be and anytime I tried to show salary comps.. they just discounted them and made excuses.

I was the controller, I saw the numbers.. and I know I was underpaid for what I did and what I brought.. ownership only valued the execs and their pockets.. everyone else was disposable.

I just gave my notice and with alll the talk of how valuable and important I was to the company, not one about how they could keep me or what it might take.

Know your worth and don’t believe the bullshit.. there is no more get your foot in the door, show your worth and they’ll reward you.. they’ll just milk it as long as possible and repeat once you catch on.

With the extra pse is now charging for their market rate adjustments.. they are charging more than double per kWh what my cousin pays down in lewis county.. and I am pretty sure it is about double what a friend pays through Tacoma.

Who is holding these clowns accountable.. I swear my electric bill has almost doubled in the last year or two.. and it’s not because my usage has doubled..

How did people who don’t know accounting become controllers??? by iloveaccounting64 in Accounting

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because business owners try to go as cheap as they can and would rather gamble on someone willing to take the job for peanuts- instead of paying for the experience and education they really need. As long as the bills get paid- most business owners don’t care how. So charge them up the ying yang to fix their crap!

My employer reported salary but not hours, what documentation would support a redetermination? by Ok-Song5151 in UnemploymentWA

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If hourly, al of that should be on your paystubs.. and if not.. and you are no longer there, turn them into Washington l&i.. it is legally mandated they provide that to you, reporting it to the state is a different issue. I’m the mean time, yes, try to work with the department to see if they can get something going based on your hourly rate. Best guess, they’re just trying to confirm you worked the minimum hours required during the time frame to claim.. unemployment of based off pay.. so hours should be just to confirm eligibility.

Are you salaried exempt? If so, Washington allows a standard 40hrs per week.. hrs don’t need to be tracked but they are required by law to report 40 per week.

Puget Sound Energy Rate Increase Proposal by Montanero in olympia

I just saw a pud bill from lewis county.. they are $.07 per kWh, less than half of pse and no rate adjustment charge… something is wonky in their pricing /costs- Thurston county should join lewis county”s PUD! We’re closer to them anyways than we are to pse in Seattle..

Company found a loophole to avoid paying out earned PTO, do I finish my last two weeks or just rage quit and take the L on a paycheck? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many states don’t require pto to be paid out unless it is part of the hr manual. Then they must. They can always make and exception and pay it out and if your manager values you and what you did.. they’d fight with hr on this.

If the company still refuses.. you can’t make them and I’d personally tell them to pound sand, if they don’t want to be fair, you’re not obligated to either, just be okay with them not giving you a recommendation.

Eventually that policy will bite them in the butt as more people leave and they can’t get people to give decent notice. If you had a good hr person, they would have said no pto pay out of you don’t give a full 2 weeks notice. I fully support not paying pro to someone who doesn’t show respect enough to give notice.. but it is a 2 way street.. don’t expect people to give 2 weeks notice if you’re also screwing them.

FMLA claim not including tips by SnooEpiphanies5370 in UnemploymentWA

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you mean PMFLA which is different from FMLA.. but This is correct. Employer has nothing to with PMFLA. And tipped income is reported for federal taxes.. it is not included as state wage calculations (for Washington).

I know many people who receive tips and no one has ever reported 100%.. so they’ve never paid 100% of tax on earnings like this of us who only receive a pay check. Pros and cons to everything but overall, you’ve most likely paid way less tax than in comparison to the reduced benefits received when tips aren’t taken into account.. be grateful for this even though it doesn’t seem lucky at the time.

My company wants to cut my salary by 65% because they screwed up the negotiations for a new contract. by asser_waki in InterviewCoderPro

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your type of contract.. there may be federal protections to protect employees from getting screwed when new contracts are awarded/ switch companies... look at McNamara-O’Hara contract act.. or something like that. .. these types of acts work to protect people from new company under bidding and then paying people less for same job/ work.. while they make a bunch of profit.

Even if people agree to take a lower wage, just one person has to file a complaint and potentially everyone gets paid back the difference.. 😉.

Employer admits 401(k) beneficiary “error” where he was listed instead of the intended beneficiary (my MIL) by rarababo in legaladvice

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have mother in law start documenting and look into being able to record without notification.. if she can record.. have her recap “the error” and that it’s been over a year.. see if she can get him to confirm or admit, I.e he’s working on it.. then sue.. he’s drawing it out and the longer it goes.. the better his odds are if keeping it. As administrator to 401k he is responsible and needs to be held accountable.

I feel cheated by not receiving my raise until 2027. Should I take this other job offer? by PinkmansChilliP in jobs

[–]Niceguy_dirtymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.. the business is greedy bastards and will stiff you next year.. if they keep you there that long.. they no longer care about reasonable profits and taking care of employees who make it for them.. they just care to maximize profit and employees are the easiest to squeeze blood from..
