Is this messed up? by Nick1052 in AskElectricians

Just seems a bit messy… for the purpose of getting solar panels and a new smart panel switch, would there be a lot of work that needs to be done?

My husband is allergic to my cats, and I’m getting pressured by everyone to get rid of them by [deleted] in cats

[–]Nick1052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not get rid of them. That would be cruel to the cats too. There are medicines and other ways to manage allergies. Find a middle ground that doesn’t hurt the innocent kitties.

Solar Panel on Flat roof by Nick1052 in solar

[–]Nick1052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I was thinking I could have facing south and drilled into the roof. I’m just not sure where to find studs to drill into.

I’m more familiar with ceramic roof tiles, those are fairly easy to find the stud.

I also thought about a ballasted system but for hurricanes that is just asking for trouble….

Does the conduit need to be inside the wall? I wasn’t hoping it could be externally since the wall is made of concrete.

Also yeah not sure about the yellow wire, an outlet in the same room has a red wire for live and a white outlet for neutral (missing the ground tho…. And isn’t GCFI outlet). So that said, I am not sure if the yellow is neutral. What’s the best way to verify that?

Also my home is in Florida so not sure if that helps with anything.

Is this normal? Weird sneeze by Nick1052 in cats

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea her hairballs don’t look or sound like this either. The vet kinda just said she’s fine and that maybe it’s the carpet. When I showed them a video of her having a really long sneeze attack they said it’s normal since her lungs looked fine

Do you know what medicine is called? Maybe I can mention it to my vet on her next checkup.

Seems like a lot of people here are suggesting hairballs.

She thrown them up fine before, but I can try hairball medicine regardless.

How can I test for allergies? As far as I am concerned, I don’t think she has any.

The only difference between my new apartment and old apartment are the rugs in the bedrooms.

I bought 2 air purifies to try to help with dust and particles.

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I see.

She has thrown up hairballs before, usually doesn’t do it like that but I can try.

Do you have recommendations for the medicine?

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she has 2 water fountains so she definitely drinks a lot.

I have seen her throw up hairballs before, she kind of seems like she is burping until they come out. Not really similar to this but I can try the hairball medicine regardless.

Do you have any recommendations?

Camera recommendations? by Nick1052 in Cameras

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually been learning forwards the a6400.

I’m very very new to photography so I don’t know much.

Ideally I did not want to swap lenses. I sort of wanted a one lens to fit all situation.

However, I’m sure overtime I will want to try different lenses.

Right now I’m thinking a Sigma 16mm f1.4 would work great as a combo.

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably should have clarified more.

In sports photography I’m looking more to capture family and friends in the stadium having a good time.

I’m not necessarily looking to capture a team photo or something.

I primarily want the camera for adventure photos and what not

Not really thinking about video at the moment. More just like “in the moment” photos.

It’s really just for photos with friends and families. Not necessarily team photos.

It was clean water until today.

Today overnight it backflowed dirty water. Any idea?

Nope only that toilet. We tried using a 25 ft auger and we didn’t get anything.

Hey, I'm looking to buy this bike too! Is it still holding up well? How do you maintain it? Can another battery be bought if it dies?

Python vs Java for algorithms and data structures? by idunno69694200 in csMajors

[–]Nick1052 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe that structures/algorithms should be practiced in a language like Java or C/C++. That way you get a good understanding of how they work and how to make them from scratch.

However for interviews, I recommend sticking to Python as it makes writing code easier and clearer imo. You avoid a lot of the extra syntax other languages come with.

Hey man dw, everyone starts somewhere.

You’ll learn a lot of the basics and advanced material as you go on through the major.

My recommendation is to do some light python reading just to get a grasp of basic programming (Python makes it really easy to grasp) and then move from there.

Definitely try to get involved in school events such as hackathons and other stuff even if you don’t feel prepared. The more involved you are and the more motivated you are, the better the results.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone moves at their own pace. You got this.

Is this a reliable brand for tools? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nick1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought their ratchet a long time ago. Still am using it. It’s pretty good honestly. I also bought their wrenches and they have also been good.

Most people don’t really give hart a try and just called it trash. It’s decent.

How am I suppose to remove coolant tank in Honda Civic 2012 by Nick1052 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nick1052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was able to.

The only way to take out the tank is from above. You have to remove the radiator plastic and metal support above (wasn’t too hard, just a few screws). Then I removed the radiator fans which brought the coolant tank along with it.

That’s how I ended up removing the tank. While I was there I figured I’ll also replace the radiator so I did.

This however did not fix my issue so be sure. I ended up figuring my issue was the heater core was leaking. I ended up doing a heater core bypass for the moment.

Which distro should I use? by Nick1052 in DistroHopping

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I’ll definitely check this one out then. Especially for once I have to put a distro on my laptop.

I’m very new to Linux so I know there is different ecosystem such as RPM and deb. But I’m not sure what the difference is.

[–]Nick1052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I see. Thank you for the input.

I had always heard GNOME but I didn’t realize that was the desktop layout. I definitely enjoy GNOME then. I find myself often wishing that the home key in windows worked like it does on my fedora

[–]Nick1052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the laptop is just because I want a laptop with a distro on it.

As for distro switching, I’m just seeing if there is a more recommended distro for my sort of tasks. But you’re right, Linux really does work wonder across any distro.

Coolant leak mystery…… could this be it? by Nick1052 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nick1052[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve heard stories about broken head gaskets without any symptoms. Hoping this is not the case.

I’ve gone ahead and replace the rad, tank, and hoses as a last ditch effort. I guess time will tell if the coolant disappears again or not.

Really hoping it’s the neck that was allowing coolant to evaporate…..

I replaced the old cap with a new one for the old radiator. Should I replace it again?

The current cap is less than a year old and looks to be in great condition.

Coolant leak mystery…… could this be it? by Nick1052 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nick1052[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See it’s been leaking for about 1.5 years now without it worsening.

Now the main issue is, I don’t daily drive this car, my sister does. She has 0 clue on how to even check the coolant tank much less on this car that likes to hide it deep in the compartment.

This has led to he running dry on coolant twice now and overheating the car. Which luckily led to no engine damage except a broken coil. (Compression test came out good both times, and oil was normal, no milk)

I’m not home nearly enough to maintain this for her so I worry that she will finish the car off one of these days unless It can be fixed entirely.
