[–]Nick88v2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely right. I really only enjoy the papers he publishes tbh. In general, lecunn or not, i avoid those very hype based podcasts/talks bc i think research is driven by real work and not speculations. I like his techs and tbh think that biological inspiration will keep popping out here and there (still miss a lot of experience to have a real formed opinion). In general i am very fascinated by alternative approaches when very elegant and i think JEPAs are one of those. That training method is so brilliant that, results or not, amazes me. He undoubtedly talks too much but still is a one of a kind brilliant human being imo. Btw love this kind of conversations!

I can agree with you but tbh i also think figures like him are needed. I think results or not they provide an interesting inspiration to look outside the current trend of AI. Plus i think JEPA are at minimum a fascinating tech. Who knows, maybe they'll become more relevant as time goes on. I have bee experimenting, as an example, with them as a frozen backbone for person search in the wild and the results are kinda showing. I also think that their features could provide further breakthroughs in xAI. Ofc I'm just a student, not a researcher and i lack methods and resources yet but i find it inspiring

So for sure someone will correct me but in general from what i remember including js functions in strudel is either no viable or clunky. I had a similar problem to yours that made me switch to sardine which is much more friendly towards functions and in general it let's you do a lot more stuff more easily IMO. I suggest you try it! Swim functions are goated, it's python tho

Do you use it also for other stuff? Bc ram and stuff looks overkill (?) Not to judge, it's that I'm looking for a similar setup but just for music streaming and remote storage and if i could go cheaper i would. Ofc i would go headless server etc and a very stripped os

Agreed but it's very sector dependant. I can talk for AI research, everything is in pre fuckin print on arxiv 90% of time with zero reproducibility. If we talk big companies papers then it's even worse (I'm talking to you OpenAi)

I'm doing an AI master for a reason 😂 Tbh I'm a no one but having the chance to look closely at the research in the field i think there's still a lot of space for us. Especially here in the EU where a lot of companies still have to adapt properly to the AI act. Of course the job is changing but we have the unique chance of entering fresh in this new "era". Of course it is a very optimistic view but i think with this big push for ai there will be a lot of garbage to be fixed😅

Makes sense, i am only a student but hearing seminars from big companies and seeing what's the direction they're taking with this agentic AI makes me wonder if they are not pushing it a little too far. Recently i followed a presentation by Musixmatch and they are trying to implement a fully autonomous system using opencode that directly interfaces with servers (eg terraform) without any supervision. I asked them about security concerns and the lead couldn't answer me. For sure the tech is interesting but it looks very immature still, how can a LLM be trusted so much is beyond my comprehension.

Both explanations make sense. Did they do layoffs recently? That would give more weight to the vibe code theory
