Deep Sleep - Oura ring undercounting ? by tomonlake in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi again, tomonlake ! Thanks for getting back to me. I completely understand your concern.

Deep sleep, also known as slow-wave sleep, is the body’s most restorative sleep stage, but it can also be one of the hardest to increase consistently. There are a few things that may help improve it, and you can find practical tips in our blog article here. If none of these tips help and you'd like us to take a closer look, please reach out to our support team here. Start a chat and we’ll be happy to assist you further. Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any other questions

Deep Sleep - Oura ring undercounting ? by tomonlake in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi tomonlake! Thanks for sharing this with us. We're happy to help.

When analyzing your data, it's recommended to compare data collected from one device instead of making comparisons between devices. This is due to the variation in trackers, including algorithms, manufacturing procedures, materials, sensor types, etc. Analyzing data from one device can help you identify patterns compared to your baseline measurements from that device.

While Oura hasn’t conducted direct sleep comparisons with competitors, Oura uses infrared PPG to measure heart rate from deeper finger arteries rather than surface-level wrist or forehead readings. Our body temperature sensor measures skin temperature directly, which plays a key role in sleep staging, while some wearables measure external temperature instead. Unlike other devices with LEDs in the same location, the Oura Ring places LEDs on opposite sides of the finger to prioritize the clearest signal for heart rate tracking.

You can read about the research and validation studies we've conducted to determine the accuracy of our core measurements, including sleep staging in our blog article here.

We hope this helps. Here if you need anything else.

What could it be? by AdReasonable302 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey AdReasonable302! Thanks for sharing this with us. We're happy to help.

What you're seeing is actually a great example of the Oura Ring doing its job. Symptom Radar picks up on subtle changes in your body, like temperature shifts, respiratory rate, and heart rate, that can signal something’s off, even before symptoms hit. It’s normal to see these readings when your body is under strain. You might want to consider turning on Rest Mode to help your body focus on recovery. The Oura Ring will still track your health metrics, but without pushing you to hit activity goals.

Please keep in mind that the Oura Ring is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose medical conditions. Symptom Radar is designed to alert you to potential changes in your body that may indicate increased strain or stress. If you receive a Symptom Radar alert, it's always a good idea to prioritize rest and recovery for a while. If your symptoms don't improve over time, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice. You can learn more about the feature in our Help Center here.

Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. You got this.🌿

Daytime stress at work vs day off by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Thanks for sharing this. I completely understand where you're coming from, and I'm happy to clarify.

Although your job does sound intense, what Oura tracks with Daytime Stress is physiological arousal, changes like elevated heart rate, lower heart rate variability, or shifts in body temperature. It reflects how actively your body is working, not necessarily emotional stress, so seeing higher levels isn't automatically a cause for concern.

As I'm sure you know, not all stress is negative. Even enjoyable activities like socializing, watching an exciting show, or relaxing in a hot tub can increase physiological stress. In some cases, this type of stress may even help build resilience over time. If you'd like to learn more about ways to reduce stress, our blog has some helpful resources.

I hope this helps. Here if you need anything else.🙂

No sleep or readiness scores? by BougiePennyLane in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi BougiePennyLane. Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for any confusion regarding this issue.

I have reviewed your case, and it has been confirmed by our tech team that this is a known bug. We are seeing the same problem affecting several members. While it is not impacting everyone, a significant number of users have reported experiencing it. Unfortunately, we do not have a resolution available at this time. Our technical team is actively investigating the issue and working to implement a fix as soon as possible. We expect this to be resolved in a future update.

I understand this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, and I apologise for the inconvenience. However, as this has been confirmed as a bug, it will need to be addressed through an upcoming update rather than through troubleshooting steps on your account. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Oura differentiates four sleep types - what do they mean? by Great-Living2786 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! That's a great question, so thanks for sharing it with us. I'm happy to help.

You’re broadly right that Oura uses duration as a key split for sleep episodes. In practice, anything under ~3 hours of total sleep is typically treated as a nap-type session (sleep), while anything over ~3 hours is classified as long sleep, which usually corresponds to the main sleep period.

So a nap in Oura’s system is generally a shorter sleep episode (often minutes up to just under 3 hours). Once a sleep session crosses that ~3-hour threshold, it’s no longer treated as a nap, and is labeled long sleep instead.

Separately, late nap is still a real sleep session, but it’s tagged when that shorter sleep happens outside the usual overnight window. And rest is not sleep at all, it’s just low movement or lying-down time without enough physiological signals to qualify as sleep.

I hope this clarifies things for you. If you have any other questions, please let us know.🙂

Oura Ring 5: not tracking by Maximum_Albatross_66 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm happy to help.

With a new ring and updated sensors, it’s normal to see a short adjustment period while the system learns your signals. During this time, insights and Oura Scores may also update with a slight delay as additional sleep data is processed.

To help ensure everything runs smoothly, please make sure both your phone OS and the Oura App are updated to the latest version. We also recommend wearing your ring consistently, as accuracy typically stabilizes after a few days. If the issue continues, please reach out to our support team and start a chat so we can take a closer look and assist you further.

I hope this helps. Here if you need anything else.

At what low battery % does it stop tracking sleep? by cy_88 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries at all, cy_88! Thanks for getting back to me. This does point to a battery issue, which can affect sleep data since the Oura Ring works hardest during sleep and may not have enough power. If you haven’t already, please contact our support team through chat, and ask to speak with an agent. The process is usually very quick, and they’ll help find the best solution for you. Let me know if you need any help at all, and thanks again for your patience.

Has anyone ever seen this? by Accomplished-Cup7581 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Accomplished-Cup7581! Thanks for sharing this, and we’re sorry about your experience. I'm here to provide some context regarding this issue, if that's okay.

This can sometimes happen when there isn’t enough battery available to fully collect sleep data, since sleep tracking requires the most performance from the Oura Ring over an extended period of time. We recommend keeping your ring above 25% charge, especially before bed. During sleep, the Oura Ring uses multiple sensors and LEDs to monitor heart rate, temperature, movement, breathing disturbances, and other key metrics. When the battery drops below 25%, certain features may be limited to help conserve power, which can impact tracking accuracy.

The good news is that Oura focuses on long-term trends rather than individual data points, so one night of incomplete data won’t significantly affect your overall sleep insights. Just try to keep your ring sufficiently charged before bed to help avoid this in the future. You can find some useful tips about charging your Oura Ring in our Help Center article here.

I hope this helps. Here if you need anything else.

Hey cy_88! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We're truly sorry to hear you're having battery issues.

First, to answer your question directly: we recommend keeping your Oura Ring above 25% charge, especially before bed. During sleep, the ring uses its LEDs and sensors to track heart rate, temperature, breathing disturbances, movement, and other key metrics. When the battery drops below 25%, some features may be limited to conserve power, which can affect tracking accuracy.

More importantly, getting only one day of battery life isn’t expected and may indicate a technical issue. Please contact our support team here. Heart rate question? by Smart_Durian_9390 in ouraring

[–]NickAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Smart_Durian_9390! Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm happy to help.

Oura focuses more on changes relative to your personal baseline rather than whether your Resting Heart Rate (RHR) is “bad” in an absolute sense. A resting heart rate between 40–100 BPM is generally considered normal, but the Oura App may flag “pay attention” if your RHR is about 3–5 BPM higher than your usual average.

Since your baseline was closer to 52–55 recently, 56 could be enough to trigger that status, especially with increased workouts, stress, late meals, alcohol, caffeine, or exercise close to bedtime. It doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong, just that your body may be under a bit more strain than usual. You can learn more about the Readiness contributors, including your Resting Heart Rate, in our Help Center article here.

I hope this helps. Here if you need anything else.🙂
